Looking forward to that room tour video. Personally, I have one main rule to collecting that I never break: you could pick any movie in my collection right now and I would gladly sit and watch it with you and enjoy it. If a movie doesn't fit that criteria, I don't buy it. This means I can look at my collection and be proud of it instead of burdened by it, because that's how much I appreciate any and every movie I have. I also don't involve any kind of numbers in my collecting. We do what we do because we enjoy it, and when you start to spreadsheet everything, it ruins the fun and turns it into work. Obviously, I wasn't always like this and I would buy anything that was cheap when I started collecting (who out there can't relate? lol). Luckily, this didn't last long and I've since parted ways with a lot of stuff I bought back then.
@sidehustlecinema2 ай бұрын
That's a good rule to follow. I do believe we are in the golden age of collecting right now and I love it.

2298 at the moment, and only about 20% of dvd logged into collection. About 75% boutique labels, ie: 450 scream/shout factory, 200 vinegar syndrome, 150 Arrow. I have a room dedicated with custom shelving.
@sidehustlecinema2 ай бұрын
Very nice! Do you have an end number in mind or is it just when you run out of space?

@sidehustlecinema I'm kinda like you, and curate down to films I want and/or are valuable. I always have stuff for sale on ebay. I'd like to stay around 2.5k. I have room for a few hundred more, but displays put away or moved you know the drill.

These are some really awesome questions, it's right up my alley! So, in regards to how much we have and what our end goal is. My husband and I brought together our (very small) physical media collections when we got married in 2012. I started to get more into collecting very avidly in 2013, because I was trying to share the X-Men cartoons with my husband (he'd never seen them but they were a big part of my childhood) and Netflix actually pulled them from the service while we were in the middle of binge-watching. It crashed while we were trying to switch from episode 6 to 7, and we later found out it was because the titles got pulled. This was before they were required to put alerts about which titles were leaving the service soon, and while my husband was bummed about it, it galvanized me into collecting physical media more actively instead of casually. So I've been collecting for more than 10 years but because we've had to be both careful about budget and space, I'd estimate we have less than 500 movies and shows in the collection. (I'm working on counting and cataloging it all with blu-ray.com's "My Movies" app.) I purge pretty regularly along with purchasing; we have very few duplicates in the collection and there's a lot we've gotten rid of just because neither of us care about it anymore. I wouldn't say we have an endgame number we want to reach. Aside from budget and space, I think we're both just really interested in collecting titles that we enjoy and/or want to preserve, so whatever our end number ends up being is just kind of a nebulous, far-flung concept. I love the way you broke down the other questions. Because it really is true, even if we watch a lot of movies a year, there needs to be some accounting for nuance, because I watch a ton of movies with my friends, and because there's a lot of rewatching that happens as well, either with other people or on my own. It's actually been a goal of mine for this year (I don't really set New Year's resolutions, but I guess you could say this was one) to watch more of the physical movies and shows we own with my husband. He and I average about 3 or 4 movies a week. I also average 1 to 2 movies a week on my own, and maybe another 2 to 3 with friends every two weeks. Shooting for the lower numbers that's around 10 or 11 movies every two weeks? And thankfully this year more of it has been things we own! I'll have to see how well we have done by the end of the year. I know in years past, all those numbers were lower. Thanks again for posting these questions, they were great and really made me think a bit! Love your channel, stay awesome, dude!
@kevinschmitt40502 ай бұрын
I’ve got about 2200 (mostly horror). I try to average one a day. With the money that goes into the collection I can’t justify spending any money on streaming or the theater. So if it doesn’t have a release, it doesn’t exist to me
@sidehustlecinema2 ай бұрын
I might start logging what I watch and do a follow up video in 6 months and get a more accurate number of what I watch. I jump in and out of streaming services I'll watch what I want and then cancel until several more shows build up.
