I'm in the same boat as you. I'm trying to downsize a lot of movies (mostly DVD) so I can make room for more quality stuff. Man I remember those dollar tree runs when I first started collecting lol

Looking forward to that room tour video. Personally, I have one main rule to collecting that I never break: you could pick any movie in my collection right now and I would gladly sit and watch it with you and enjoy it. If a movie doesn't fit that criteria, I don't buy it. This means I can look at my collection and be proud of it instead of burdened by it, because that's how much I appreciate any and every movie I have. I also don't involve any kind of numbers in my collecting. We do what we do because we enjoy it, and when you start to spreadsheet everything, it ruins the fun and turns it into work. Obviously, I wasn't always like this and I would buy anything that was cheap when I started collecting (who out there can't relate? lol). Luckily, this didn't last long and I've since parted ways with a lot of stuff I bought back then.

That's a good rule to follow. I do believe we are in the golden age of collecting right now and I love it.

Ah….one of life’s great mysteries….when to stop collecting…in my earlier collecting days, I’d blind buy a lot more and roll the dice, but now, I’m far pickier about what I buy for any reasons, space,$ to name a cpl. Good conversation starter Side Hustle. 🤘🏻 Side note: I got in my Crypt Keeper bust and lost boys plaque from Spirit Halloween, they’re even better in person 👍🏻👊🏻

I did a lot of dumb things when I first got into collecting. It's weird to think about getting better at collecting but I feel like that's what I have done. After checking out the Crypt Keeper don't you kind of want the Frankenstein?

My collection is fairly large. I could definitely donate some stuff for sure. Currently, I have watched 259 films in 2024. I’m hoping to get to 500 by the end of the year, but we’ll see. Awesome video, homie! 👻
@sidehustlecinema2 ай бұрын
That's impressive 500 would be a huge number.

@@sidehustlecinema Yeah, my girlfriend suggested that I use Letterboxd, so now I can keep track of exactly how many films I’ve watched. I highly recommend Letterboxd to movie lovers. It’s a very useful tool. 🤘🏻

Man I feel like I've watched less movies and bought less movies this year. Time is just going so fast and Idk where it's going. I feel like there is 12 hours in the day now and I spend 8 of those at work lol. I've also been going to a lot more events and buy higher priced collectibles I don't need lol. Great video man!

2298 at the moment, and only about 20% of dvd logged into collection. About 75% boutique labels, ie: 450 scream/shout factory, 200 vinegar syndrome, 150 Arrow. I have a room dedicated with custom shelving.
@sidehustlecinema2 ай бұрын
Very nice! Do you have an end number in mind or is it just when you run out of space?
@Saturdaynightdrive-in2 ай бұрын
@sidehustlecinema I'm kinda like you, and curate down to films I want and/or are valuable. I always have stuff for sale on ebay. I'd like to stay around 2.5k. I have room for a few hundred more, but displays put away or moved you know the drill.

Thanks Chris, Your collection is pretty awesome. At some point I do want to log my collection into an app but I'm not looking forward to it, but it would be so helpful.

im in my 40s,ive been watching movies since the 1980s,i seen all the movies i own and ive already watched any movie i will buy in the future, dont collect junk
@sidehustlecinema2 ай бұрын
So how many do you own? I think a lot of collectors get caught up in quantity over quality but I'm getting better about it. Thanks for watching.

I’ve got about 2200 (mostly horror). I try to average one a day. With the money that goes into the collection I can’t justify spending any money on streaming or the theater. So if it doesn’t have a release, it doesn’t exist to me
@sidehustlecinema2 ай бұрын
I might start logging what I watch and do a follow up video in 6 months and get a more accurate number of what I watch. I jump in and out of streaming services I'll watch what I want and then cancel until several more shows build up.

i watch the same movies over and over again,timeless movies that only get better though out the years.im independently wealthy,i watch youtube and movies all year,i havent worked since 2019.my granddaughter watches about 4 movies a day easily because shes barely little over a year old and its 110 degrees outside on average,even if i dont watch the movies entirely,i let movies play all day and i have movies playing on a projector that nobody watches,i just use that projected movie on the wall as decoration,

I like to have movies running in the background as well, It's probably why I never ditched cable. Your setup sounds awesome.
