Thanks a lot, youve potentially saved me a fortune. Last time a bulb went the wife got it changed at Halfords and they somegow snapped the entire cradle. So glad I could do it myself this time.

Thank you! I will never ever use a chain with one of these links again. I would rather rewire an entire house, it's easier than removing these links.

I found Convertable circlip pliers usefull to pry off the outer plate of the quicklink, Cheap circlip pliers are thin enough to fit in between outer plate links.

Once in a decade or so, a video like this is made to renew faiths . Being a maladroit tapir, I've been struggling with a certain key on my laptop for weeks (information withheld to safeguard their personality rights) - all I can say is that I'm really happy to have fixed it while following the steps in your video. Now the key works flawlessly, and I use it as often as I can. merci

Pulled fuse 77 but cannot for the life of me refit it. Once my hand is in that small gap I can't see what I'm doing. Tried blindly pushing around but no joy. Total nightmare

Great video and it solved my problem with my left shifter. I had an accident and came off my bike and the shifter hasn't worked since then. I tried all sorts and then came across your video. A simple five minute job and it was shifting up and down like new. Thanks for your help.

the type of "quicklink" that i am unable to use, tried for hours (not "quick" at all) .. so removing is not even a question ... the only one i can use is the one with two identical pieces

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!!!! I was dreading trying to get the washer bottle out to clear the gunk or paying a garage to do it for me . This worked a treat. Took 20 minutes to fully clear the washers now as good as new, my fish even got their air tube back. Thanks so very much !!!

Top man Yes removing the rubber did help however the small inside lever which releases the mechanism to change to the small ring was not returning to start position this is probably a weak spring issue which is solved by tying the inside small lever to the large lever using a small cable tie if that makes since

You have to forcefully bend the chain until it moves in. Basically pushing it inwards. Then pray it stays in and close it fully with a pire.

Still can't work out quite why removing this little bit of rubber makes such a difference (or why Shimano add it to the shifter in the first place) but it does! So grateful that this has been posted. I'd spent ages and ages mucking about with cable tension and adjusting the limit screws - all to no avail. Now fixed in 10 seconds! Wonderful!!!

These aren't intended to be reusable. They're single use. Get a KMC missing link that's compatible with your shimano chain instead (compatibility is based on pin length and number of speeds, and the kmc packaging / their website tells what shimano chains each missing link is compatible with). My thumbs are still numb 30 minutes later... Edit: it's been 12 hours and the tips of my thumb are still numb. Just use a chain breaker folks.
