Just 65 yrs old and diagnosed Osteoporosis. I run/trot 1.5 mi 3x's/wk and have been doing your 20 min strength training 3x's/wk for two mths now and love it. The ads are frustrating grrrr I use 5 lb weights. As per renegade row, I can't find a dumbbell that will give me enough height from the floor. I have to keep my thumbs down on the floor. You must be using heavier weights in order to have the 'taller' dumbbells, pls share? PS love the thunder :)

In regards to eating vegetables first, does that mean eating all of the vegetables before eating protein. For example if there is about 2 cups of green beans, should we eat all of those first or is it okay to eat a couple spoonsful and eat protein and come back to veggies?

I struggle struggle struggle with staying consistently in calories. (Age 59/172lbs/5’81/2); I w/o 4-5 times a week, track my food in MFP, but am constantly set back by unplanned social event or spontaneous family get together or just the habit of eating more. Ant tips on getting off the nutritional rollercoaster mentally or physically? (PS: I,m not much of a cook so when I do prep it’s a lot of the same and gets mentally fatiguing-but I WANT this!)

Cottage cheese has 12 g., of protein per half cup, which is great if you can handle dairy. I'm so glad you're pro- protein from animal products. I so agree with you about intermittent fasting and poor (crazy) habits people have developed to stay thin or women who will do anything to get back to a decent weight... which is me. But you said something profound, I think it may be in this video or another, but, that is to look at things from a completely different perspective. What would it look like if I achieved perfect health: a natural equilibrium within myself where I a not doing any weird diet or incorporating weird / extreme eating habits.. I'm getting good sleep, my exercise is regular. This is where there is (would be) balance. If I was able to take the chains off and just shift into a way of being, and be more gentle on myself, would I then naturally be in great shape? Reversing the thinking and hearing you pose that scenario really made me think. I am 59, and about forty lbs over weight. Starting four months ago I made the decision to wake everyday and do easy to moderate exercise, but everyday and have not missed a day. My goal is to reverse muscle loss (though I am fairly muscular and very strong) and the changes are starting to be visible, but how I feel has really changed. I am coming out of a very stressful period of my life that lasted several years, and I know the weight gain is due to the stress and crazy sleep patterns, so I made a commitment to makes changes. I do 15lb. kettlebell exercises, and maybe elliptical 2x a week. I am avoiding pushing hard, so as not to produce cortisol and these are daily light to med. 10 - 20min workouts. I am.going to watch and increase my protein for sure. Just found your channel, great information!

When I stopped the pill and found out I was on menopause, I no longer could do the weight lifting I was previously capable of. My ignorant doctor sent me to a rheumatologist who was also ignorant and tested me for auto-immune diseases. I told both, I. Need estrogen, no one listened. After exercising I had muscle pain as if a truck had rolled over my body.

Keep track of lean muscle mass to know if it’s working! That’s a lot of days of weights and no recovery ( when gains are made? And little fuel also contributes to loss of muscle.

This is the problem that I have. Connective tissues. I've never been much of an exerciser because I've always worked outside and my body feels best when I am moving but I am 63 years old and I am so sore after working, not when I'm working... I'm trying to figure this all out.

Such great advice! Restore before adding more. I beat myself up for not being able to do what I once could. The estrogen decline had a profound impact on many of my systems. I had to go to 4 doctors to get real help. I think many women need to hear what you’re saying. Thank you!!!

The worst thing I did when I entered menopause was to listen to KZbinrs telling me I couldn’t workout the same as I always have. I run at least 3 miles 6 days a week and lift weights. I scaled back with this, because I was told by KZbin I had to. Big mistake! I resumed my regular workouts and now I feel great again. Listen to your body not a KZbin influencer

@@laurahunter1690 I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm 11 years older than you, and much like you I went at fitness training as hard as I'd always done at your age and at least up to 60. I share this in love, with the realization that we are all made up somewhat different. I came to realize that through the before, during, and after menopause stages I was not doing my body any favors by the way I was daily working out. The hormones will continue to decline and that's a fact for all of us women. You will start seeing changes in many areas of your body that you are sure at this point you never will. Trust me, it surprises us all. We all make our own paths. I'm not sure anyone could have convinced me to do differently, but I also know there was no one even trying to share these facts with me. Plus I've come to realize it was all a Strong part of my identity. I wasn't willing to change for something that would have definitely been better for my aging body. Aging is something none of us escapes, but there's only 2 choices. We either age or we are no longer on this earth to age. Doesn't mean we can't make good choices that make a big difference in how we age though. I've learned the past couple of years, from my naturopathic Dr, that was a marathon runner and in her mid 40s, and from others like Debra who's trying to help us women. Do with this what you want and I wish you well. 💝

Recently a male influencer took some heat for labeling videos "Menopause Workout." Here's my response to this! Is there? Should there be? and if so why? If what YOU'RE doing doesn't work right now, you'll like this 10 day challenge where I give you workouts.... AND teach you the way they impact your hormones. www.flippingfifty.com/hnb-challenge If you need a start, restart or reset and don't want "random" it's only open twice a year, but reviews are 4 and 5 star for thousands of women.

I know this routine was posted three years ago. While a good routine, there was a lot packed in to 20 minutes. Also, I understand the importance of functional movement, but there was too much getting up and sitting down. This routine could have been extended to 30 minutes, and that's still doable in a crunch.

I have always had bad knees. After a bad knee injury playing tennis, I started strengthening muscles around the knees for better long term mobility. I discovered hip rotation exercises have actually helped with the knee pain. These stretches will add nicely to my routine. My recovery is actually quicker by focusing on my hips.

One gram of protein per pound of body weight? My God, I'd be eating 5,000 calories per day! I'll end up weighing 200 pounds at that rate! I agree I need more, but that just doesn't seem remotely attainable.
