The factory resole is very expensive. Might as well put towsrds a new pair

Sad they have stopped making leather bottomed Burfords..😢

Replacement of the shoe welt is not necessary if the welt is in good condition unless the welt is busted. Otherwise, you are adding additional holes into the side of the shoe which will make it impossible for the shoe to be repaired multiple times.
@scottlalonde287810 күн бұрын
Was going to make this comment, but you said it better. Thought purpose of welt construction is so you DON'T have to mess with the upper. Even if you sew on a new welt by hand using the same holes, why give the upper added stress. These people know way better than me, but yeah I'm confused.

I’ve 4 pairs of Loakes, a dress pair black monk shoe. A pair of black brogues, two pairs of Bedale boots, oxblood grained and light tan smooth. Very disappointed that the uppers are made not in England but worse than that there is chopped and regurgitated compressed leather in the heel stacks. Cheap and not quality. NO more Loakes for me.

Always struggled to find comfortable shoes for my uncomfortable feet. Spoke to a guy who had the same problem and he suggested another maker of bespoke hand made shoes,. Tried them but sadly they were no better. Not giving up I found Loake. The company must have taken moulds from my feet whilst I was sleeping to make the last that these shoes were built on. They are so comfortable, they look amazing and make me feel great. The quality is something else. They are so good that within a week I had purchased another pair so that I will never be without them. Complete game changer.

I own six pairs of Loakes but a little disappointed that they sub out some manufacturing to India. I'd be prepared to pay a little more if they were completely made within the UK.

“Made in England” where are the uppers clicked, cut and stitched ?? Be honest about the process it’s all very misleading.

Such a shame all uppers even on the “English made” ranges like the 1880 are all made in India. Very misleading

I have got many (too many) shoes... but I value Loake's the most. I believe that there is some sort of conection between my appreciation and the way the manufacture operates. Those movies (especially one's from factory), blog, transparency, attention to details (I have some really high-end shoes, few times more expensive and they were in ugly boxes, without spare shoe laces, booklets or horns etc. which Loake provides) and last but not least... factory shoe repair system. That's why I guess I like Loake's shoes the most :) It's just some sort of shopping experience mixed with aftercare services, designed creams etc. that is on top with shoes being really good value for money. Cheers!

Yes, I feel the same. My grandfather wore Loakes, and it has always represented the benchmark of taste and dependability to me. My favourite is a black chukka, the Cromwell- the cut is just so elegant, and ofc the fit is very complementary. Do you have any standout favourites?

Not sure what kind of polished leather design loake i have, but it doesnt seem to take polish. So based on that i cant reccomend them. However i snapped up higher grade polished leather shoes, so lets see of theres a y improvment in quality.
@McElhinney65 Жыл бұрын
Polished leather is low maintenance and is cleaned with a wipe over with a damp cloth and a light polish. It won't take conditioners like calf and has a tendency to crack.
@wayneelliott70114 ай бұрын
Loake use Bookbinder (Corrected Grain). These are poor quality and will crease and crack. Church's Polished Binder for eg. use Calf Leather and will last virtually forever if well cared for.

My new Loake (Woodstock) polished leather shoes have pebble grain vamp and polished leather toe cap in Burgundy. I’m just going to use cream polish on the vamp and sides and mirror wax on the toe and heal. Those parts don’t flex like the vamp does. The toe has a brogue pattern on it. I love them.

People buy goodyear welted shoes so they can have them resoled over and over. Removing a perfectly good and usable welt and machine stitching a new one damages the upper and reduces the integrity of the shoe. English shoe manufacturers like Loake, Barker, Crockett, Cheaney etc does this so you can only resole your shoe 2 or 3 times before you are forced to buy a new one. Don't fall for this marketing strategy. Bring your shoes to a good cobbler who can handstitch a new sole to your welt and upper and you will have a pair that will last essentially a lifetime.
@lonesheepdog63372 жыл бұрын
Do you just use beeswax polish on 'polished leather' or can you use a conditioner / cream / restorer like with calf leather shoes

From my experience If you want a Moccasin Barker or Gucci is a safe bet, however for a welted shoe, no one comes close to Loake for quality and price, I have 5 pairs now.

My old leather soled 1880 chestnut brogues lasted for so many years, I added to the range. They are quite fabulous for playing an organ, with the soles sliding effortlessly over the pedals. I added a new pair of Design Loake brogues with dainite soles last year-and they are quite good. Nevertheless I missed the solid contact with terra firma so bought another pair leather soled brogues-black this time-and rejoice at the quality. Thank you Loake in England.
