awesome to have a new video, any clue if you will collect the elements again? loved those videos and taught me how to get my own!

As soon as I can move out of the homeless shelter into a real dwelling, I plan to build a new periodic table and reboot the element collecting series. I'm seriously considering re-collecting all of them. I was looking back at my old videos and cringing and how low the quality was. Besides, I've learned things along the way, and if I make new videos for all of the elements they'll be better than the old ones.

With your samples and building a new table, you can find Americium from an ionizer-type smoke detector and way more samples!

i’ve been recently trying to collect the elements myself, and you have been a big help. i originally had no clue on how i was gonna extract any elements from anything and i thought it was gonna he hard and complicated, but you apparently only need things you might find in your own home!

I believe it’s an iridium alloy not pure iridium. Denso mentions alloyed with rhodium on their website. But who knows what the actual composition is

I honestly don't know. I didn't weigh the iridium bits before I sealed them in the ampoule. My guess is only a few tens of milligrams.

@@yaykruser I bought a little square of sheet iridium for about £40 about 2 weeks ago. Dissolved a few mg of it in molten alkali cyanide then somehow lost the rest of it 🤦‍♂️ I still got some alkali tetracyanoiridate out of it. I was told cyanide is the only thing that can disolve iridium It's very dark in colour considering the little amount that got dissolved. I was able to mostly separate by allowing the excess alkali cyanide to creep out of the beaker on its own over the last 2 weeks, it also formed a nice poly crystal the iridate being heavier remained in solution

@@SodiumInteresting Well, dont worry, got my first 0.4g bead of Iridium on christmas, and lost it the same day, searched it for hours and never found it😂 Then bought 2 2g pieces , that was right after the price skyroketed and the seller didnt adjust the pirce yet. Used one to experiment on, turns out its not as brittle as people say it is, it bent quite a bit before breaking. Later tried to remelt it with a HHO burner but didnt succeed, sold them both for a small profit. Did you get yours from that british Ebay guy that sells them as 5x5 mm pieces and 2 bigger ones ? I thought about buying some for experiments(wanna find out if it reacts with the halogens) but its just too expensive on a per gram basis... As for chemistry, you should be abke to dissolve it in many liquid salts like your favourite Sodium chloride or Sodium peroxide. I think I read that they used Sodiumhydroxide plus Potassium nitrate somewhere to dissolve it.
@SodiumInteresting

@@yaykruser interesting about those other molten salts working as well, I got the information about cyanide from the poor mans chemist. guess I'll have to go to the ebay seller again, it was one of those 5mm² pieces. I should have a decent look for it first. If it didn't end up going down the plug hole it will be somewhere...

Hi there! Is there a maximum/minimum ratio of distilled water to sulphuric acid?
@DancingRain
@DancingRain 11 ай бұрын
Technically, yes. In practice, just randomly adding a few milliliters of acid to a small dish of water puts you in the right range. If you don't need the nickel sulfate for anything, you're better off using "white vinegar" from the grocery store. It's safer, cheaper, and just as effective.

@@DancingRain Thank you! I am a scrap metal collector by profession but I'm breaking into metal recovery via electrolysis and chemical reactions. Currently I am trying to clean copper of oxides in acetic acid (10%) with the intent to precipitate out the Cu by introducing Pb. Then taking the resulting Lead Acetate and infusing with carbon dioxide to create lead carbonate, which I'm going to dry and package for use as artisan pigment. Trying being the key word, ran into an issue with sulfide contamination on pennies, turn my lead black. That said! Can nickel sulfate be a particularly useful reagent or is it mostly just a waste byproduct?

What do you think of Epson Salt baths? I love them. Supposedly it's a bunch of Bull though. I still like it. Bubbles is too juvenile and plain water doesn't have the same psychosomatic edge. Yoj know what I mean. The funny thing is I saw Nile Red boil down Epson Salt and it's like 60% Water anyway 😅 Whatever. I like it.

Well, some absorption of magnesium ions through the skin is definitely possible, and in the right amount, magnesium is beneficial. Given that epsom salt is pretty much harmless (in the doses you'd get from a bath. I don't recommend eating it by the pound 😛), I can't say anything negative about it. Many folks find epsom salt baths soothing, and that's a good thing. It might not realign your chakras or rebalance your Qi, but soothing tired muscles and giving the mind something pleasant to experience are both wins in my book.

That is a nice PV set! Too bad about the cracked panel. I think I saw you connecting the panels in parallel, so the impact of that bad panel on the system's total output shouldn't be too bad. Still, I hope you can get it replaced, it will increase the output. Also, please make sure to secure the entire structure to the ground. You don't want an errant gust of wind to pick it up and flip it over.

Once the camper is delivered, and I move the panels up the hill, I'll definitely be securing them. The wind can be downright brutal on the mountain, but oddly, hasn't budged the panels yet.

When will you be making a video of what happened with the U-Haul? What kind of accident was it? Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Both of my jobs have had me working 16-18 hours per day, 7 days a week for months on end. So I haven't had much time to get on KZbin or talk.
@DancingRain
@DancingRain 2 жыл бұрын
My goodness, you must be exhausted! Hopefully Ameilia and I will be able to make the video about the U-haul when our replacement camper is delivered. We had originally wanted to film it as a "telling a story around a campfire" video, but it's been way too windy to have a campfire on the homestead. (We're afraid we'll set the entire mountain on fire.) So, when the camper gets here, maybe we'll format it as a "telling a story around the kitchen table" video. Cliff notes version: U-Haul rented us a death trap. Carbon monoxide leak, broken axle. Over a month of fighting, they refused to get us a replacement working truck. We had trouble getting another truck to rescue the contents of the U-haul. We ended up with two hours to cram what we could grab into a friend's minivan. U-Haul chose tho throw the rest of our stuff in the trash. Almost all of our tools. Almost all of my KZbin supplies. Almost every sentimental thing we owned. Even most of our clothes.
