Iridium is more valuable than gold, it is an easy process……….You can find lots spark plugs.

I believe it’s an iridium alloy not pure iridium. Denso mentions alloyed with rhodium on their website. But who knows what the actual composition is

Can I use hydrochloric acid instead without effecting the iridium?

Thanks man, I just bought 4 Iridium spark plugs from AliExpress and I didnt know how to extract the Iridium (I wanted to try its with Agua regia, but your método is much better).
@DancingRain

Much safer too. You can even use distilled vinegar as the electrolysis solution. That's what I would have used, but I was out of vinegar when I filmed this.

How much did this weigh, I was looking the other day on onyxmet and Ir was €100/gram
@DancingRain

I honestly don't know. I didn't weigh the iridium bits before I sealed them in the ampoule. My guess is only a few tens of milligrams.
@yaykruser

its 150€ a gram , still cheaper to buy it pure than buying sparkys...

@@yaykruser I bought a little square of sheet iridium for about £40 about 2 weeks ago. Dissolved a few mg of it in molten alkali cyanide then somehow lost the rest of it 🤦‍♂️ I still got some alkali tetracyanoiridate out of it. I was told cyanide is the only thing that can disolve iridium It's very dark in colour considering the little amount that got dissolved. I was able to mostly separate by allowing the excess alkali cyanide to creep out of the beaker on its own over the last 2 weeks, it also formed a nice poly crystal the iridate being heavier remained in solution

@@SodiumInteresting Well, dont worry, got my first 0.4g bead of Iridium on christmas, and lost it the same day, searched it for hours and never found it😂 Then bought 2 2g pieces , that was right after the price skyroketed and the seller didnt adjust the pirce yet. Used one to experiment on, turns out its not as brittle as people say it is, it bent quite a bit before breaking. Later tried to remelt it with a HHO burner but didnt succeed, sold them both for a small profit. Did you get yours from that british Ebay guy that sells them as 5x5 mm pieces and 2 bigger ones ? I thought about buying some for experiments(wanna find out if it reacts with the halogens) but its just too expensive on a per gram basis... As for chemistry, you should be abke to dissolve it in many liquid salts like your favourite Sodium chloride or Sodium peroxide. I think I read that they used Sodiumhydroxide plus Potassium nitrate somewhere to dissolve it.

@@yaykruser interesting about those other molten salts working as well, I got the information about cyanide from the poor mans chemist. guess I'll have to go to the ebay seller again, it was one of those 5mm² pieces. I should have a decent look for it first. If it didn't end up going down the plug hole it will be somewhere...

Hi there! Is there a maximum/minimum ratio of distilled water to sulphuric acid?
@DancingRain
@DancingRain Жыл бұрын
Technically, yes. In practice, just randomly adding a few milliliters of acid to a small dish of water puts you in the right range. If you don't need the nickel sulfate for anything, you're better off using "white vinegar" from the grocery store. It's safer, cheaper, and just as effective.

@@DancingRain Thank you! I am a scrap metal collector by profession but I'm breaking into metal recovery via electrolysis and chemical reactions. Currently I am trying to clean copper of oxides in acetic acid (10%) with the intent to precipitate out the Cu by introducing Pb. Then taking the resulting Lead Acetate and infusing with carbon dioxide to create lead carbonate, which I'm going to dry and package for use as artisan pigment. Trying being the key word, ran into an issue with sulfide contamination on pennies, turn my lead black. That said! Can nickel sulfate be a particularly useful reagent or is it mostly just a waste byproduct?
