Toulumne Meadows campgrounds have been closed for 2 years! Tent cabins did not open this year. This is the information that i learned this summer 2024. It is my understanding that Toulumne Meadows campgrounds will be closed summer 2025. Please update when possible. You failed to mention the good available hike to the Great Sierra mine which starts at the Tioga Pass entrance. Did not mention the horse/mule pack trains that operate to/from Toulumne Meadows.

Love your channel, Ash! Very informative and professionally produced. Sharing your spreadsheet for free is very generous of you! A couple of notes: some lodging, such as Many Glacier Lodge, opens up the entire month 1 year in advance. For example, if you want to book July 15, you need to book it on July 1 the prior year, at 12:01 a.m. local time I might add. If you try to get it on the 15th of the prior year, it won’t be available. Second, for your subscribers that have flexible plans and can go at the spur of the moment, watch for last minute cancellations, especially during the shoulder seasons. We just returned from Arches, Zion and the Grand Canyon last night. We stayed at the Zion Lodge and El Tovar (in the room next to the El Tovar Suite). Weather was spectacular and crowds were light. Last, I’m kind of a spreadsheet geek. Consider adding pivot tables so that you can filter the sections that you want to focus on. For example, filter by park and lodge or campground so that you don’t have to scroll around through the spreadsheet. And add formulas that will calculate the date you need to book based on your desired date. Maybe if you do that, you can offer an enhanced version for a small fee. It’s all very easy to do. 😊 Keep up the great work!

Do you recommend waiting until the last night of your planned trip is available to book? Meaning that the first few days if your trip would have been released days earlier?
@DirtInMyShoes3 күн бұрын
No, you'll want to reserve exactly when the first day of your trip opens up for reservations!

Great Video! We love the Smoky Mountains, and one of our favorite places to choose for lodging is a cabin in Sevierville. It's close enough to access everything you want in the Smokies, but tucked away from the crowds and traffic. It's called Secluded in the Smokies. Check it out!

Im staying at El Tovar for one night in Dec and hope to get some dawn photos. Which view point would you recommend? Ideally not too busy but an awesome view of pre-dawn.
Do you know where to find more detailed information on the Moraine campground utility project timeline? Do you know the reopen date for the campground?

Very good video and good tips. I am planning a RV trip to Colorado from Ohio. I have the registration process for 19 different campgrounds going on now with various dates of when my date opens up. It can be quite the juggling process. I would add that it is good to have 2-3 sites in mind, monitor those sites a few days before you can book, evolve your backup plan as needed. Sometimes that site you want gets booked 6 days before it opens up for your date. Have a backup plan and modify it days before you can book. Thanks for your video.

We are coming August 2025. We will fly into Billings so we can drive Bear Tooth Hwy towards Yellowstone. Where should we stay after that drive? Should we just stay near Cooke City or should we make our way to Gardiner? Or is there somewhere better? Thank you for all your videos. Very helpful for first time visitors.
@DirtInMyShoes8 күн бұрын
You could stay in the north for another night or two before moving to the southern part of the park. If you want to stay in one place for your whole Yellowstone trip, I'd stay in the middle (Canyon, Madison, Norris, West).

Hi Ash. I’m in my 60’s and the last few years I’ve begun to have balance issues and am concerned about the last stretch of the trail that is narrow and has the drop off. Any thoughts on what I could do. I’d really like to see Delicate Arch up close. Thank you
@DirtInMyShoes10 күн бұрын
I think it depends on how severe your balance issues are. The trail is 4-6 feet wide there, so if you feel comfortable hugging the wall side as you make your way up that stretch, you might be ok. You could also have someone come with you to hold your hand/stabilize you if needed. Otherwise, one of the viewpoints that doesn't require hiking would be a good alternative!

If I were to go to the Big island for four nights, what would you recommend I see , and how would you divide your time between attractions. And in order to see all of this stuff would you recommend staying in Hilo or Kona? Thanks!
@DirtInMyShoes12 күн бұрын
I would just work your way through the activities in this episode and on dirtinmyshoes.com. Hilo is closer to the national park, but if you want to divide your time, you could easily spend a few days in Hilo and a few in Kona (we like 2-step for snorkeling on that side). Have fun!

I and a friend visited Arches NP on Oct 5, 2024. This park is wonderful with many trails to hike and beautiful scenes to view and take picture. we began to hike to Delicate Arch at 5 pm. we are beginning hikers, but the hike up was doable. We made the major mistake of not bringing strong flash lights. We thought that our phone flash light would provide enough light. We stayed and enjoyed the sunset at Delicate Arch. It was 9 pm when we decided to hike back. It was totally dark by then, and the trail became invisible and much more dangerous. The phone light was weak and did not provide enough light further than 3 ft. We were lost and fumbling around. Fortunately, two wonderful hikers, Lexi and Nate from Salt Lake City, came to our rescue. They lent us a flash light and led us down to the parking lot. They even gave us the flash light as a present so that we could walk to our car. Thank you Lexi and Nate!

I think you could also take your bike to South Kaibab Trail Header if you want to get there at like 4am. Don’t think the shuttles run that early and quicker than walking the rim trail? But, still would want a light while biking that early.
@DirtInMyShoes29 күн бұрын
Yeah, a bike would probably work. The hiker shuttle does leave pretty early though...they alter the schedule based on the time of year, and I think you can catch it as early as 4 or 5 a.m. during the summer. Either way :)
