Can't wait to go visit this May! We are staying nearby on the Hood Canal in Brinnon. Great video - I am giving a follow! Wish I saw your video sooner; however, we are early risers, and I am sure the drives are very scenic!

I read that a dog can be killed by a wild animal. What trails are safe to go with a service dog? Also, what side of the going to sun road is not next to the gorge, in other words, driving next to the mountain and not next to edge of the road?
@DirtInMyShoes3 сағат бұрын
You can encounter wildlife on any of Glacier's trails, so that would be your call on where to take a service dog. You'll be on the cliff side of the road primarily as you travel from west to east.

Thanks for info. We're camping in Glacier NP Avalanche Campground in July this year. We are not new to hiking but new to hiking in areas where wildlife, specifically bears (black/grizzly) are at. Should we carry anything like bear spray (??)?

I'm so interested to visit Yellowstone for the famous spots like Old Faithfull, Grand Prismatic, etc, and plan to do it in early June to avoid the crowd. But I'm also extremely concerned that after we park our car, we'd need to take a short walk into the attraction spots, is there any chance we can bump into bears during this walk? I have this anxiety because I have kids with me, I mean when we bump into a serious size one, definitely our life depends on the mood of the bear.
@DirtInMyShoesКүн бұрын
Yes, bears are definitely a factor in Yellowstone, but there are things you can do to minimize the risk, like staying on trails, making noise, and storing food properly! You can read more about bear safety here: www.dirtinmyshoes.com/bear-safety-101-preventing-an-encounter/
@L110508Күн бұрын
@@DirtInMyShoes Thanks. If we go in the summer when there are many people around the attractions, will that reduce the chance of bumping into bears? My plan B is to go in the summer but join the guided tour to skip the crowd.

Thank you for this info! When will we know when the Narrows will be open for 2025? And if we go in the spring and the Narrows are closed, can we still SEE them, just not hike it?
@DirtInMyShoesКүн бұрын
No, it varies from year to year depending on the snowpack in the higher elevations and how quickly it melts down into the river. If the Narrows is closed, you won't be able to see them. You can still hike the Riverside Walk, but it's not really the same :)

We were thinking of stopping at Lilly Lake on our way into Estes Park and perhaps doing the Gem Lake hike the first day. I assume I need the regular time entry for these even though they are beyond the entrance stations? Do time slots matter there or can we come and go whenever?
@DirtInMyShoes8 күн бұрын
For those outer areas, the time slots don't matter as much, but they do still have rangers going around and checking. So I would book the time you expect to be at the first stop that day!

My fear of heights was not an issue in the past. In my younger days, I was able to hike the Precipice trail without fear, but in my 60s, I was close to a panic attack on this trail. If I could've turned around, I would have done that. The very safe hike down the back of the Beehive is what I wished I had taken up. The top of Beehive doesn't carry any risk. My wife and I shared a bottle of wine and a sandwich. Live and learn, eh?

Hey I am going to this park possibly in the next few years so I might have to get one of these reservations however I am looking at going in February to get out of the cold in my state to go to a warm place like southern Utah and arches so we’re hoping it’s nice and warm down there for February
