I love this game and think it's absolutely beautiful most of the time, but some of the snes pixel scaling was pretty awesome. Since this was your 1st Castlevania, what did you think of all the other games in the series (if you ever got to play them) in comparison? For me this is a top 4 but it's nearly a 4 way tie
@PixelOutlaw15 күн бұрын
This was my first Castlevania. Fond memories but it gets super tough in the later levels!

the reason the text/font looks pixelated is because they were compressed from the original images (made on a pc) to save space in the N64's vanishingly small memory. the pixelation is a result of the compression algorithm, which converts those smooth gradients into blockier, less memory intensive gradients. you are totally right about asking "why didn't they just make it crisp instead". however, ironically, in order to do this, they would probably have to skip using images on the N64 (again because of space, though i am a bit skeptical and think it could still have been done easily with images since you're not in a 3d scene when in the main menu), and instead they would have to render the font as actual triangles on a plane, similar to the more modern svg format we have today. methinks the artists made some cool text images on their pc with gradients, and then disappeared to go work on some other project, and the programmers in charge said "ahhh screw it we'll just compress it", which as you mentioned, was less noticeable on 240p crt tv :)

You're totally right, but the straight up concept wasn't grabbing me. I bet it could've been fun with a bunch of buddies back in the day or drinking game in my 20's. There's definitely potential for screwing everyone else over for fun's sake and we didn't play it enough to see all the power-ups, but for how little we did play, I feel like I'd rather play Mario Kart 64 any day of the week.

I thought it was wonderful. The sense of dread I felt never let up. I think the only thing that may come close is in the series the terror, at least until the very lame monster reveal. Unlike that, I loved the Nosferatu design. His appearance at the very end is one of the most haunting things I’ve ever seen. My wife was super bored.

We really should. Unfortunately, I lost all of our old retro games and hardware in a freak situation when I was in my 20's. Repurchasing all these old games and systems would be so brutally expensive and outright irresponsible at this point in my life. Retro gaming is insane right now I was assuming it'd control accurately because every other game I've tried on the switch N64 collection was great, namely Fzero 64, and Wave Race since they are all racing games. Hell, even Mario 64 controlled a lot better than I remember I get it though I need to put in the description that we're just 2 simple brothers tying a few on, and having fun messing around with games we never got to play when we were kids.

Reviewing a N64 game on a Switch instead of an original N64, and then complaining about the controller? You should review the same game on original hardware to compare the experience.
@GhillieGuide16 күн бұрын
As a huge n64 nerd and one of the best excitebike 64 gamers: The input translation on the virtual console wii u and switch ports means the controller actually is really bad; the n64 version is a lot better but as far as reviewing the switch controls they are too sensitive and difficult

A Christmas movie for me is: if the movie takes place on, around, or builds up to Christmas Day, and the main character is either trying to be with his family for Christmas, or learns the value of family because of events outside their control during Christmas time.

The reason there is no music is because Die Hard Trilogy stores game data and music on separate tracks on the CD. If the rom hasn't been correctly consolidated then the emulator will only run the data track. The control issues aren't normal either.

I've had a great time with it. I've bought 5 of these type of units so far and 3 have already failed. I think it's the best one, especially for the price. The only suck thing is they don't have as many games as some of the other systems (why even have a dreamcast library that small, and it doesn't even have warhawk (a ps1 launch game)), none of the N64 emulators work for shit, and if you try to play amiga or commodore there's no way back- you have to hard reset it. Other than that, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes retro stuff for sure
@josephbradshaw698520 күн бұрын
@@spinninginfinite Well I built my own retrobat system, put on my own ROMs and media and what not. You bought a premade? Like a Super Console X maybe? I have one of those too. I just can't with the controllers though, lol. I have XBox360 controllers that work fine. EDIT: What I mean here, is that I"m running the same front end software that you are. So it looks identical on screen. Emulation Station I think it's called. Just that mine is on a thumbdrive I plug into a computer, whereas yours is probably on a MicroSD plugged into an Android box of some sort. My system is on a thumbdrive, and you plug it into any PC. I have a USB Hub with my retrobat thumb drive and 4 controllers. I have copies of the drive, just in case something breaks. Fun note. MY Super Console X I found out in the rain and mud. Brother in law had thrown it out. I opened it up, dried it, cleaned all the sand and mud out, and boom works like a dream!

@@spinninginfinite You can pop out the SD card and access it with your computer, download the Warhawk game ISO from CDRomance, and drag it into the roms/PS1 directory. Then put the SD card back into the Console X and it should pop up in the PS1 list. It won't have graphics in the menu, but should play fine. Just a thought. I've been fiddling with these for awhile.
