You should remove this video. I am absolutely astonished that you off all people have the rear bearing plate removed from this machine and could easily demonstrate replacing the power cord properly. Instead you are advocating people cutting the power cord, leaving the remnants of the old power cord wires in place and using butt splice connectors to connect a new power cord. For starters, people often replace their power cords because the cords are damaged. On vintage machines quite often (as you are well aware) the internal shielding is often dry rotted and brittle and often not even safe.. Why would you replace a power cord and leave ANY remnants of the old wiring in place? Secondly, adding butt splice connectors add resistance to the electrical. While the amount of resistance may be negligible depending on the quality of the butt spice connectors it’s still completely avoidable by connecting the replacement power cord properly to the connections at the field coil using the factory wire caps. I realize that some people may not be capable of removing to speed control, governor, rear bearing plate, etc. to get to the factory wiring, but why advocate a half assed repair. It is a perfectly good way to take a UL rated machine and make it unsafe and potentially dangerous. Further, there are mechanical linkages under the machine that could easily compromise those spice connections for somebody that isn’t experienced with this stuff. Another reason to avoid a Mickey Mouse repair and butt splice connections. The correct power cord with ground and a proper strain relief would avoid having to splice in a power cord designed for a solid-state model.

20 years ago, the Kitchen Aid was a great stand mixer. Unfortunately it has been consistently "value engineered" to reduce cost and I have come to hate the motor, gearing, and speed control on my new 5 quart unit. I'm giving up, sending it to Goodwill, and will be buying an Ankarsrum.

@MrMixer31610 сағат бұрын
It really just depends on what the issue is. Some repairs can still be cheaper than buying a new mixer, but for many people their mixers have a lot of sentimental value so they'd rather have theirs fixed up rather than buy a newer model.

Hey Mr. Mixer, a quick question, but first thanks a lot for your help! Your videos are entertaining and a really helpful resource. My question: is it normal that my KitchenAids speed on 10 is oscillating? It's not 100% consistent and while running sometimes drops noticeably and then comes back to full speed over and over again. Like every few seconds. If not, what is causing this behavior? I couldn't find anything about it online. Thanks in advance for your help!
