What an incredible cave, the history must be amazing. TY for the tour. Any idea of the distance from the ceiling to the ground level above it? Makes me think of humans as ants inside of it.

I did after-hours in show caves. Maintenance, usually, with TAG and elsewhere. NM was best as we bunked where fire=fighters would as the burn season came. Had meals out of an underground cafe. And an elevator so it arrived as warmed.

@tag_caver it's a very famous river cave, discovered in 1889 by Alfred Édouard Martel, the father of french and world caving and first explorer of the ground under flowstone. Padirac is really a Big system of 40 kilometers of gallery. There is a lot of crazy formations. For exemple the "grande pandeloque" is a gigant stalactic of 180 feet long. We also have towers of plates, gigant gours, and 4000 bats ! There is a lot of lakes, hundreds of siphon, and the river that we cross with small boats. Sorry for pu badely english writing

@@destructurateurmoleculaire6095 Martel? He was my inspiration, 1962 to 1967. as I first found caves and from the author did as read. Including body rappel and suggested knots. Joined the NSS in 1964. Never heard French words until 1970. When a Foreign Legion recruiting officer said he was seeking soldiers like myself.

It would be pretty remarkable to find trail marker trees that were done by the Cherokee since the tree would have to be 150+ years old and that tree looked about 50 or so but there is an explanation. Marker trees were used by the Irish settlers that settled the Appalachian mountains and that practice was widely used by woodsman, hunters and moonshiners up until about the second World War. After the war the practice was mainly used by hunters. We used to make them in the 1960's a practice my grandfather taught me. My heritage is Irish -Cherokee, So the ones we see today are probably from the later years. The red pictographs were most likely Cherokee in origin depicting dangers in and around the rocky area. The darker ones were most likely done by hunters using the area from late 1800's to about 1970's. Please be careful this time of year exploring around large rock croppings there are a lot of Timber Rattlesnakes in that area and they have two types of venom and are the most dangerous vipers in the Southeast. Great video, glad you take the young ones and educated them on our native heritage.

I marveled at cave vats roughly made of split logs to assist saltpeter industry. Enslaved Africans left their footprints and a stiffly rusted leg chain. Another cave mined for the War of 1812, it was.

Well, for starters, I have been caving for 21 years in this area. There are many people who are very fascinated by caves but will never go in them. There is no harm in showing what we love to do Underground. I have not revealed any locations so there's no way you can even find where I am. There are nearly 12,000 known caves in Tennessee, so no one is going to be able to figure out where I am. The landowners also love to see what's inside their caves. This whole caving is secret is really stupid. Because we do it, we go underground, and there's no harm in sharing our adventures. ✌️
