There is old information that does not apply to the current reality, which is that the Egyptian dialect is known to most Arabs...but this is in the days when television was the viewer...the new generation watches social media and Egyptian works are not the most watched...the Egyptian dialect is no longer known to the new generations.

What do you think about Yemeni dialect in comparison to those you mentioned?
@abuasher5 күн бұрын
I can’t say I’ve come across the Yemeni dialect too often, but I met quite a few people from Yemen in Oman. It seems somewhat similar to the Omani dialect (Gulf Dialect) but some claim it is the closest to the Classical Arabic.

The only remark I have is that you use زي (zay) as you would use 'like' in english. I think you could replace that with يعني (Ya'ni) instead. It works as a filler word as 'like' does in English. Other than that you're doing amazing!

Yeah, haha somehow it’s a habit I got in from the start, but I should definitely use Ya’ni instead 😅

Egyptian arabic is quite similiar to levante so people from syria or jordan for example do understand egyptians and egyptians understand levante

I think there are a lot of doable ways like video classes or one on one tutoring, but I’d say the best is to live in the Levant to study while you learn.

Unfortunately I’m not aware of many audio based videos for the Levantine dialect. I know a KZbin channel, “School of Yalla” that focuses on conversation in Arabic. That could be a good start. I’m sure there are some good apps out there, but unfortunately I don’t know them.

Contrary to what everyone thinks, I don’t think they mistook him for a lebnani cuz of his skin color. I’ve seen a variety of Arabs with skin color like his ranging from north Africa to the gulf. I feel like it’s most probably his features; blond hair and such. Since lebnanis are the most known for their western/European features in the Arab world. Also, your Arabic is really good and your vocab too👍

It's not true that Levantine Arabic is the closest to Standard Arabic. It's a bit confusing because MSA is not the ancestor of the modern varieties, rather it's a modernized version of Classical Arabic, doing away with some complexities in grammar and vocabulary in the classical language. Conservative rural Syrian dialects in the North are the closest to MSA in terms of pronunciation but this should not be confused with MSA as a whole. Not to mention that modern pronunciation of MSA is more or less based on these dialects anyhow, not the other way around (the creators of MSA likely being aware of this). The closest Arabic variety to MSA and Classical Arabic holistically in phonology, grammar, and vocabulary is definitively San'ani Yemeni. The downside being that a variety being closer to Classical, does not mean that it will be easier for other speakers to understand you. Yemeni San'ani is notoriously difficult to master and there are not many resources for it. Interrogatives: English - MSA - San'ani - Levantine - Egyptian Who - man - man - miin - miin What - maa/maadha - mah - shuu - eeh Where - ayna - ayn - wein - feen When - mataa - mata/ayya7iin - eemta - emta Why - limaadha - lilmah - leish - leeh How - kayfa - kayf - kiif - ezzaay How many - kam - kam - addaish - kaam

I have to aay MSA most rational choice in this age. Not only for religious reasons as u said my man .. but we have only one formal arabic (oral formal setting) and only one written formal form (again msa). Another thing. Since literacy levels now are oved 90% all arab people from morocco to the middle east will be capable to communicate to u using msa. Another rational for msa (access to books since as i mentioned msa is the only formal written form) . Peace
@abuasher2 ай бұрын
Yes, this definitely makes sense. Although, there are many Arabs that understand MSA, but feel too awkward to respond in it, so I would say that is the one challenge.
