Love your content❤️. Im learning arabic myself but only the MSA version for now, and i havent really seen any vids on people talking in MSA. Would it be possible for a video to talk MSA with other people if u know it?😅 I know its not normal to talk in MSA, but tought it would be a fun idea to try ;)

I've always found Emirati people in the UAE to be as kind and approachable as any other people - both now and 30 years ago when it wasn't such an insane place to visit. They are less casual than one would be in the USA, for example, but that is the case for many countries as well, and there are certain gender related social things to consider. But I've also seen a lot of tourists repeatedly try to sneak photos of local Emirati and I would hate feeling like some sort of destination attraction when I was just trying to go about my day and life. But people are people no matter where you go, when you really get down to it.

@abuasher I've only ever had great interactions with folks in the Emirates! Loved coming across your videos, esp as an immigrant to the US (long ago now).

@abuasher haha yeah I realize my comment sounds extra dumb without my own context, but I was at first surprised that people thought Emiratis were especially standoffish.... until I remembered my mom telling me to make sure to never photograph them! :) But for us that'd be kinda rude too, so...

I use to work off shore in the Person Gulf for a Dubai based construction company. New a few Emirate folks but worked mostly with Indian and Iranian folks. One of my bosses was an Indian. My ships crane operator was a Jordanian Pallistian . My deck crew were all Indian and my Chief Engineer was a Sikhs. Check Mate was a Filipino. I was 1 of 2 Americans working for this company. Aboard the ship we all spoke English ! 2 year contract , sorry I didn't learn more than a few words in the different languages. 😯

What's really funny (with any language, I reckon) is when someone is trying to hustle you or sell you something and you tell them to leave you alone, and they respond by saying "You can't speak Arabic!" (or whatever). But they can't say that if they haven't understood you. To find an Emirati, look for the dishdash. First thing you learn in Turkish: "I already have a carpet". The seller will crack up.

Your conclusion is extremely biased by the fact that you are a white American man in the Gulf. Your nationality and skin color gives you enormous benefits in the Arab world that other foreigners don't have and will never get. You get a level of kindness and respect that is NOT given to non white, non American foreigners. There are many foreigners who have had terrible experiences in the Gulf because they don't have the privileges you do. Do you really think if you went to the UAE or (or other gulf country) as a dark skinned person who doesn't speak English and has a weak passport, do you really think you would get the same treatment? Do you think people would be so kind and friendly, falling over themselves to help you out and being so happy to meet you? Come on now. Your experiences are limited to people who have your priveleges. They are not in any way universal. It would be nice if you acknowledged this.
@abuasher
@abuasher 9 ай бұрын
Hey, your thoughts are valid. And I can’t argue with your experience. To be clear I shared this from my experience and I think on both sides we have to be carful not to generalise. There are friendly and non-friendly people in every country. I just like to focus on the good 😁
