Hi! I’m 40 & have 3 years since on set ALS diagnosed 1 year ago. Also have clonic spastic seizures, which causes a lot of uncontrollable shaking jerking extreme stiffness or spasticity. I’m on tizanidine, diazepam, clonazepam & mexiletine, midazolam & Dantrolene. Nothing is going to stop my seizures, but they’re trying to take some of the pain away from them & the whole process is speeding up my ALS. I’m going in for a baclofen pump test here soon in hopes that can be another tool in my toolbox for my neurological disorders. Do you know anything about the baclofen pump?
@lyoe20040
@lyoe20040 3 ай бұрын
I believe baclofen pumps are the same as pain pumps. There's no difference other than the medicine that is administered through the pump.

Im a chromic pain sufferer due to getting hurt after a cooler fell on me and got a spinal fusion but didnt help with the pain. I found an oral medicine helped but I need someone who had taken oral medication vs pain pump.Btw Ive had nerve injections and burning the nerves and nothing alleviated the pain. I found one oral medicine that helped alot but was taken off the market. It was called Opana so now I take the generic of that which help quite a bit. So for all those people who took oral meds and now have a pain pump I just need to know how it the pain pump is as good as oral or not. Even with my medication I cant get a regular sleep and wake up because im in pain. Thanks for the review

Thank you for sharing your experience. After 15+ years with CRPS, 4 SCS units, and a host of injections, the war on opioids has left me grappling with a “now what” scenario. In Feb 2024 I underwent the trial injection like you described, and OMG it was incredible how much it reduced my pain. There’s a part of me that wants that, but I’m worried about 2 things, and 1 I fear will sound petty. You mention how you feel the “puck” shift under your skin a bit if you move a lot. How much has your pain pump affected your personal life? I used to be active, go dancing, go hiking, and had an active romantic life as well, and I’d like you to reclaim some of the life I had before CRPS started stealing bits and pieces of it, but if it means sacrificing some of the peace I still have, I’m not sure I can do it; that’s like swapping one hell for a different one. The second thing is finding a surgeon I trust. I had a fabu neurosurgeon for most of my SCS implants, but sadly he doesn’t do pain pumps, and the two surgeons that do I have zero trust in. The first time I met the one was during a routine SCS battery swap (from BS to StJ) and he started telling me how he was worried about scar tissue as my original unit was put in 7 years prior. So he wanted to completely remove my unit and leads, let me heal completely, then do a second surgery to put a whole new unit. I asked why did my leads need to be replaced, and he couldn’t give me a real reason. So when I said battery swap only he turned into a petulant child who’d been denied a new toy. So knowing I don’t trust these surgeons I’m not even sure how I’d go about trying to find a reliable one in a neighboring state, and how my insurance would feel about that. I’ve tried reaching out to people in my community, but can’t seem to find anyone which doesn’t boost my confidence at all. 😢

Question, I’ve been with a guy for 8 years, living with he and his two daughter’s, their mother was diagnosed with a mental/emotional Illness so several she’s been locked in a psychiatric ward for about 10 years without making any progress, she became very violent toward their two daughters before CPS was notified so many times from school/church/family for well fair visits, and was finally admitted, the girls have not seen her in over 8 years. I live with them and have been taking care of them for 8 years, but especially since his 16 year old constantly complained of knee pain in August, we thought it was simple growing pains because she’s so tall, but after a couple weeks it began to look strange so we rushed her to the ER, and they said it was definitely cancer eating away at her knee but that they couldn’t help us and sent us to a hospital 2 hours away. She received chemo, we took turns staying at the hospital for weeks on end, until they gave us, especially her that it was osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and they would need to amputate not just the knee but the leg all the way to her hip. It has been a nightmare emotionally for her, and us to see her going thru this at 16, she’s still receiving chemo 2 weeks a month to make sure they got it all, and we’ve been taking turns staying 14-16 hours per day by her bed in the oncology unit, she has lost SO much weight it’s absolutely heartbreaking, she’s terrified to eat because she’s use to the chemo making her vomit. She went from 128lbs to 88lbs. I was hoping we could find a charity to make her a wig because she’s so upset about losing her waist length beautiful hair but we can’t find anywhere and wigs are crazy expensive. When she’s home between weeks long 2 hour hospital stays, I work from home, so I take care of her, the biggest problem is I’m small as well and getting her on and off the toilet, in and out of the bath, because without 2 legs, she has no balance. I always make sure she has her favorite food, drinks, her phone, Ipad and laptop are always charged for her, I change, wash her sheets, put new ones on when she has accidents because she’s so weak and tired, her dad is great and gives me a break to sleep in on weekends when he’s not working and takes care of her, her grandma comes and takes care of her and reads bible verses, takes care of her, for hours and hours when I have a deadline, she lives right next to us. We didn’t get to celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas because of being so busy with her surgery and continued chemo. It’s just been very, very hard emotionally, she has a 14 year old sister who has been acting out in school. Her main oncologist said a few weeks ago, he’d put her name in for make a wish, which is of course Disney at Christmas. My question is who would be able to go with her?

I had terrible spinal headaches after my trial and pump placement too. My Dr kept saying it was rare and couldn’t believe it was happening to me. I’m sorry to hear you had that as well. I also questioned my choice, but now I’m so happy with it. My pump was implanted Jan 15, 2024. I’ve had to have 3 blood patches to finally get rid of the spinal headache.

Something really important i learned is that having the pump is completely different than the pump trial in terms of where it helps and how it helps and of course how much it helps as theres a pre set medication they use in the trial while the pump itself is custom to you and the placement of the real pump is custom to you as well so the trial is wildddddly inaccurate to determine if a pump will work for you or not. Another thing people always freak out at me about is having 4 months worth of narcotics in my body at once. There are fail-safes built into the pump to prevent that but one thing to note is if you have to have certain narcotics they damage the pump over time so eventually it will malfunction. I was overdosed pretty severely when my last pump quit working but medtronic would never tell people this can happen of course then i found out its quite common. The good thing about the pump tho is you know if something is off and can see your doctor its beyond incredibly easy to tell if the dose is either too low or too high for your normal and these things can be remedied quickly. So yes while its dangerous to have 4 months of narcotics inside your body when its filled its still beyond worth the risks and struggles dealing with a pump to get any amount of relief to be able to function day to day.

Thank you do much! For posting all these videos about the pain pump and other obstacles you have went through. So my name is Mara and I am 46. We have a lot in common. I had a hysterectomy also at a young age and I have chronic pain due to May-Thurners syndrome. I had a large blood clot when I was 16 and 6 months pregnant with my first son. The blood clot did not fully dissolve in my pelvis and later on in life I almost lost my leg because of it. My left leg was 2.5 inches larger than the right. No doctor from Cali to Minn. could figure out what was wrong with me. I ended up at the mayo clinic and now have 9 inches worth of stinting in my pelvis. The damage was so great that now I live with constant low back, nerve and leg pain from not having any blood flow to my leg. Now I am going to get a pain pump. I haven't watched all ur videos as I just found yours but I am curious how big the incision/scar(s) is. I had a tummy tuck at the mayo clinic also (lucky me) most brutal surgery ever said no one online but it is absolute hell for 3 months post op. Anyhow nice to meet you. I hope by leaving a comment someone may come across this post by Gods hands to help them diagnose their supposed edema. Sometimes it's NOT EDEMA! It MAY-THURNERS SYNDROME! God boess all spoonies everywhere!!! ❤❤❤❤

I had a pain pump trail done 3 weeks ago. After it I had spinal fluid leak causing headaches. I went in for what it's called a blood patch. It's where they take blood from your arm and inject it into your spine to help replenish fluids lost and most importantly it clots the hole to stop the leakage. My headaches basically went away immediately. They didn't offer anything like that to you?
@healthteaspoonie

@@healthteaspoonie that's weird. I had the pain pump implanted in December but last week I had to have the catheter repositioned. I started to have bad headaches and they gave me a blood patch. they just have to make sure they didn't pierce the catheter. My doctor made it seem like it was no big deal to get it done.

Yes, a blood patch works immediately. I don’t know why she didn’t go get one either. It’s the vitamin K in your blood that stops it. And you’re right it is immediate.

My life has changed as well. I get mine filled every month and in 2025 I get my pump changed cause of the battery. Which I’m nervous about that too. And I can’t say I got that nasty headache when I had it done. But years ago I had a small tear in my spinal cord and had headaches all the time, dr never knew it until I finally had a surgery. Pump don’t take it all away but makes life a lot easier!

A spooner and sure wish I would have found you before! I have fibromyalgia, RA, chronic pain, idiopathic hypersomnia, thoracic outlet syndrome, failed back surgery, Bertolotti syndrome and that may cover it lol. I had a spinal cord stimulator put in Jan 23 and had it removed last Thursday by new dr because it wasn’t working and was keeping me from being able to have much needed MRIs on different parts of my body. I go for pain pump trial in two days which is how I came across you and in so glad. I enjoy your bubbly personality. Now I’m really excited about my pain pump and pray it gives me back my life. I’m m a bit older than you are but I have three beautiful grandchildren that I want explore and have fun with.

Hello fellow single sick mom! Sounds like you have been through it girl! Same here.. how has the pump worked for you?.. “The med Tronic pain pump won’t relieve other types of pain such as headaches, stomach aches, fractures, etc.” this is in the medtonic pamphlet “out of pain into relief,” so I’m just curious as to how it has worked out since you’ve got it because right now my doctors are trying to convince me and I don’t want it. I know many practices have merged together so that they can tally up how many of these procedures they’ve done so that they can receive the big payouts from the companies that offer compensation for so many procedures, given, for me this is a big red flag I mean how much do they really care if they just want to make money, you can look this up on Medtronic implant scams exposed , I am seeing so much negative stuff about it, thousands upon thousands of lawsuits and people being paralyzed etc etc lmk pls. I had a gastric tear and spinal fracture with fusion and hardware then a laminectomy that was considered a failed back surgery so I need more than just localized relief.. I’m in pain everywhere!! But if it worked for you that’s great!!! Pls fill me in!! I’m open minded but pretty weary after researching not only the device, but the company making these devices. Thnx

After your implant surgery did you need to wean off your oral meds as they started to activate the pump doses? I am on Lyrica (pregabalin) Jurnista (Hydromorphone) and Cymbalta. Given it is all for neuropathic pain and spinal cord tethering from a spine injury. I have had several surgeries including artificial disc replacement. I tried a spinal cord stimulator and it didn't work for me and then it failed so I had to have it removed. I have been looking into the pump to try and get rid of the meds as I have ADHD also and the meds give me such bad brain fog and increased the ADHD Symptoms. I have been watching your videos which are quite helpful and informative.
