I'll be reading Beloved. Been wanting to read it for so long but I know it's gonna be rough. I am feeling excited about reading this month. Spooky season is my favourite reading season so hopefully it will be a good month. It was so nice to watch a cozy catch up video as the book community (and the community in general) here had a very sad day. Our local library was broken into early hours Monday. Glass broken, water fountains ripped from the walls, computers smashed, drains plugged in an effort to flood. Library closed for the foreseeable future. We're all devastated. I've been watching every cozy booktube video I could find. It was a real bright spot in my day to do the TBR spin and hear about recent reads. ❤

That’s very upsetting to hear. Unfortunately, it sounds like it occurred here in the US since folks have such short tempers at the moment. Regardless of whether the vandalism was a form of protest against the library possibly taking a stance against book banning I don’t understand the value of senseless destruction.

ugh yes the dark! it gets dark where I live in the (american) midwest at like 4:30 for a couple months of the fall/winter and I do not love it. feels like bedtime when I'm eating dinner haha. I am currently reading the new richard osman because I finished the murder club series and have been desperate to read something else by him, so I totally understand your dilemma. I also have pale fire in my fall reading plans, despite never reading nabokov before, so I am happy that others like it so much. always love your reading updates :)

Baseball is such a nuanced and complex sport. The more you watch the better it is. It's a great game. Lucky you for attending a game that the Jays actually won! Despite the disappointing season, GO JAYS! I've added that baseball book to my tbr 😊. Currently reading Coco Mellors' Blue Sisters and can't put it down tbh. Great video!

You and I “discovered” baseball around the same time and when you originally talked about it in a video you said something to the effect that you’re now a baseball expert after your first game and I quote that to my husband all the time because I feel the same way! He took me to my first baseball games in Seattle over the summer (we live in Alberta) and it was AMAZING-we went to all three Mariners/Astros games. I would love to go see the Jays sometime. Cheers!

I'm going to count 'creepy' as equivalent to 'spooky' and have gladly decided to read a very early John Wyndham, a crime novel first released in 1935, Foul Play Suspected, described in blurbs as "genuinely creepy" and "odd" and "disturbing rather than horrific...worrying to think about." Kind of makes my skin crawl, frankly, and it's a mystery from before he began to write scifi.

You know how you have a “ fascination “? with Baseball? I’ve a weird “ thing” about Ice Hickey. I’ve never been to an Ice Hockey game. I know nothing about the rules etc. Yet I’ve read so many books, mostly romance about Ice Hockey.

Very happy about the spooky prompt, thank you spin gods! 😅 I still haven't picked up the September prompt (Julian Barnes - Before she met me) but hope to catch up by end of the year. One of my friends also loooooves Pale Fire, I've only read Lolita and was impressed by the writing. If you like baseball and haven't read it yet, you can try Housekeeper and the Professor. I am that one weird person who hated Brooklyn but hope you will love it, I'm definitely in the minority 😅

So good to see you again! I'm currently reading Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to lose your mind and create a new one, and The Stationary Shop. Have to balance a heavier thinking read with lighter ones! I understand about the longer darker days of the season. My depression is usually worse in winter. I didn't realize they are making something about Say Nothing. I'll have to try that book again. It wasn't the right time for me to read it maybe. I was so excited for it and read over half of it then I remember getting frustrated with it for some reason and putting it down. Good reason to pick it up again!

Intermezzo is on my Libby list--i'm 5th in line so who knows when I will get it but I'm trying, somewhat difficult--to not read any summaries or reviews about it. So thank you for not saying too much, other than you love it. also I loved hearing about NYC book stores. I get into the city about every 6 weeks so now I have more places I want to get to. I've been reading some translated fiction--Ti Amo by Orstavik was very good and most sad memoir. Also Black Butterflies by Morris was excellent. Want to read Say Nothing and now with the series coming out it has moved to the top of the stack. Recently got The Safekeep (from this year's Booker shortlist) but have only read the first 40 pages in the last few weeks. Thank you for the video, always love seeing you and Bennie.

Henry getting late for the appointment. The appointment which will trigger his self; his conscience till he lives. Julian was the guy who curtained his own cowardice so skillfully, you could never say he is not 'The Gifted guide' who can chizel a plato out of you. But ironically, Henry inherited every speck of his charisma and teachings, but his malice. The bullet could pierce him but his pain of Julian's betrayal was still unscarred. Such rapt loss of all innocence is harsh! But the epilogue shouts 'having an unfortunate life'. When karma spills , it spills all over:(

I am in exactly the same position. I had been putting off reading this book because I thought from all the hype it was getting that i would be disappointed, but I was pleasantly surprised. I devoured it in a few days, couldn't stop reading and now I feel a huge hole in my chest. I love all the characters and the epilogue left me with a suffocated feeling that I haven't been able to shake off. I'll be honest, at first I didn't like Henry's character almost at all (he was very bland to me) but after his death and the epilogue where Richard dreams of his ghost and walks away to nowhere I don't know why I felt a horrible nostalgia and so much sadness 😭 well I'm very sensitive probably, but I can't get over the characters, I think it definitely became one of my favorite books.

This video made me want to buy books! 😂 In particular, Swimming Lessons because I loved Unsettled Ground and Bitter Orange but her most recent one doesn’t appeal to me, so going back catalogue feels right in this instance. Also I would so try that Peach coke flavor if it was out in the UK.
