Can I recommend listening to Tresspasses on audio? The same for A Swim in a Pond in the Rain 💐

I loved A Swim in the Pond in the Rain - it gave me a new appreciation for short stories. I also loved this video, it was somehow more satisfying than a haul video? Probably because you're sticking to your goal and it's SO impressive! 🎉🎉

Fayne is taunting me with its 700+ page count. But the synopsis sounds right up my alley. Plenty of time to psych myself up before the paperback comes out.

Books I may be tempted to buy without waiting for paperpack editions when they finally release: 1. Every Drop Is A Man’s Nightmare by Megan Kakimoto (because omg what a title) 2. The Art Thief: A True Story of Love, Crime, and a Dangerous Obsession by Michael Finkel (always want to hear a good heist story)

You need the Art Thief. I feel like it was written specifically for you.

I really liked The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis - it is a long one. I like the cover you showed better than the US cover I have. :)

Yes this is the UK cover I think and I like it better too!

What a great list! I always leave your videos with a list of books to look up on Goodreads to check out the synopses. I just finished reading Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion, and I'm currently reading The Salt Path by Raynor Winn, a true story and has been very good so far. Some of the books on my wishlist are Play It As It Lays by Joan Didion, Before Your Memory Fades (great series), Cockroaches by Scholastique Mukasonga, One Hundred Saturdays: Stella Levi and the Search for a Lost World by Michael Frank. Currently have close to 30 books on my wishlist but trying to read down my tbr before I buy anymore. Always love your videos!

Oh I also keep being drawn to One Hundred Saturdays! It's such a beautiful cover and I bet it's a very lovely book. Thank you for always leaving such kind comments! ❤️

May is also my bday month 💚 The Last Unicorn is one of my favourite books, so I'll be purchasing Peter S Beagle's newest books coming out "The Essential Peter S Beagle" volume 1 and 2. I loved Babel, so I would like to also buy Yellowface. I usually only buy books that aren't available at my library, or there's a long wait to borrow them.

Preach! I HATE hardbacks and I too get very excited when the paperback copy of a book I've been wanting to read comes out. I also refuse to buy on e-book as a substitute. Just saw a used copy of The Book of Negroes and this video is giving me remorse for not having picked it up. I had to order the paperback copy of Trespasses from Book Depository which seems ridiculous but I just want to read it - NOW. I also have Migrations and Shuggie Bain on my shelf - both I have been meaning to get to. Faye is def. on my radar now and I'd heard A Swim in the the Pond in the Rain was great.

I feel like it's easy to find a used copy of Book of Negroes - almost everyone I know, especially people who don't read a large volume of books - have read a copy of it!

A new subscriber here, thank you for some great book ideas. I really like the look of ‘Fayne’. I read ‘Trespasses’ recently and really liked it, it’s a really compelling read. I’ve just finished two excellent books. ‘The cherry robbers’ by Sarai Walker and ‘Weyward’ by Emilia Hart. Looking forward to your next video! What is your name?

"I'm not interested in fat stories from the perspective of skinny people." Yes, sister! I'm heartily sick of stories of of fat people who have no friends, let alone lovers, as though that's the norm for larger people. I have plenty of friends and I've been with my (not fat) husband for 27 years, thank you very much. Anyway, loved your video. I'm also on a brief book buying ban as I'm working my way through the Women's Prize longlist. Except I bought seven books yesterday (all Miss Marple novels as they were on sale for 99p each).

Just finished Trespasses yesterday and it’s a stunning debut novel. I was frustrated by A Swim in a Pond in the Rain, I was expecting a sophisticated graduate level take on the classic Russian stories, but it was just like a 101 introductory undergrad discussion or even high school level interpretation, nothing new or profound. Highly recommend the His Dark Materials trilogy and Shuggie Bain, followed relatively soon after by Young Mungo.

Ahh that's a shame to hear about A Swim in the Pond...maybe I will try a sample from the library before I commit. I am leaning more and more to picking up Shuggie Bain!
@bookofdust Жыл бұрын
@@TheBookBully A sampling of it from the library might be a wise choice before purchase, not to sound like a snob, but extensive and deep readers like you and most Booktubers are going to be able to distill most of the elements and themes from a short story that you read. Maybe if he had translated them himself a new and was talking about things he found or what couldn’t be translated about the story might have been interesting, but I was left with “yeah, I got that already, and…”

Thank you for this insight!! Maybe I will look for a different George Saunders to try.

@@TheBookBully Lincoln in the Bardo is a masterpiece, I’ve heard amazing things about the audiobook, which has an extensive cast and probably helps give all the individual characters a clearer identity then just on the page.

Books nearly always come out in paperback immediately in Australia. Sometimes I get a bit jealous of the beautiful hardbacks I see US, UK and Canadian booktubers showing. I guess we always want what we don’t have 😂
@TheBookBully Жыл бұрын
I will agree sometimes hardbacks are beautiful! But I just hate holding them and carting them around with me. I much prefer to physically read a paperback. Also they take up less space on my shelf which means I can own more books 😂😂

You're a stronger human than I am. I was to be on a self-imposed book-buying ban until my bday in June and was off to a great start (dry book January). Fell off the wagon in February because some Annie Ernaux books I wanted were on sale, so, ya know, in the name of saving money I caved. Great excuse, right? Then I bought some books at my library, again, two-dollar books...duh. More recently I purchased three Julian Barnes books because you (yes, you) reminded me of how much I love his writing and I would eventually read them anyway so why couldn't I just buy them now that I got such a great deal when books are so expensive these days...yada, yada, freaking yada. Complete failure. Migrations and Devotions are excellent. Not tempting you, just sayin.
