How many times do you normally see one in a sample?

I always find them in my samples, and always several and at least 2 different species. 😄

I am working on marine meiofauna and encounter tardigrades sometimes in my samples. Great quality video and I have to mention that I generally use a petri dish under a dissecting microscope. Great idea to put it under an upright light microscope, may be practical:)

What microscopy techniques do you use? How did you make such a great video? What objects do you use?
@mymicroscopicworld2 күн бұрын
The illumination technique is my own, called Kristiansen illumination. I’ll make a video about that some time next year. The objectives are from Motic. The 4x and 10x are plan APO objectives and the 20x is a plan objective.
@KacperKolis-u7h3 күн бұрын
Will I also get a good video under the Nikon Optiphot 2 microscope or is your microscope better?
@mymicroscopicworld3 күн бұрын
Depending on what objectives the microscope has, the Nikon optiphot should have roughly the same image quality as my microscope. But a good image also depends on sample preparation, illumination technique, camera, and skills. 🔬 so it might not look perfect to begin with. But keep practicing and it will get better at better 😄

Which microscope do you recomend me?
@mymicroscopicworld3 күн бұрын
That depends a lot on what kind of specimens you want to observe, how much you expect to use the microscope and what your budget is. If you want to look at insects and “large” samples like that, then a stereo microscope. If you want to look at microorganisms then a biological compound microscope. If you want to use it a lot then a binocular with a mechanical stage or trinocular if you want to mount a camera. If you just want to use it from time to time then a monocular could possibly do the job 😄🔬

Even better would be to know how to keep them alive in sample for months. I found some, but somehow dead. :D and lot of times i had organisms which produced in big numbers in some jars, but i do not have knowledge to keep them alive at those big populations. Its like the jarrarium have its periods to some populations, but at this time everything is too similar and everywhere are the same organisms. I just use same fertiliser, milk and for everything i have only few pippetes which i did not clean enough as i see. Do you have some knowledge how to keep at least some of the species alive at similar numbers of population? If yes, it would be nice to share it. :D
