You, Joey Landreth and John Scofield are 3 of my favorite players and all 3 of you have an odd rythmic feel.

In a world with many great guitarists, Julian’s artistry always brings a smile to my face.

Julian will tell you that he has far from perfect pitch but he is very intelligent and considerate. He clearly had a lot of support, encouragement, and practice growing up. If he plays a “clam” note he’ll make it sound good by leaning into it. He takes risks and is interested in how those risks resolve, most of the time he says he doesn’t know what he’s doing. It is like the butcher in Chinese philosophy: when the butcher is learning he has to move slow and think about it, over time he can let the muscle memory and knife take over and the work becomes a pure, joyful flow. That is what Julian is experiencing, you can tell from all the smiling.

he's the Captain Kirk of guitar. " to boldly go where no man has gone before " Sadly, this is not "jazz ". it's improv - but's it's not jazz. When Julian puts out a proper traditional jazz guitar album, then maybe I'll listen. Until then; sorry !!
