Left Kansas City in 2017, have never once considered moving back. When I visit, I can't believe how bad crime has gotten, even in the suburbs. It's gotten more expensive too

Partied there all the time in late 80's early 90's. It was safe and packed all the time. Met a lot of Women there back then. Lol

Unfortunately, I do agree that Overland Park is known for its yuppies. I have not experienced any racism, however, I know people who have. I wouldn’t say that it’s boring because there are plenty to do mainly around Metcalf Avenue.

I lived in OPKS for over thirty years. I loved it, no drama, safe, great public services. I retired and moved to Illinois and my taxes are now three times as much. 💵💵💵 😟 The weather is typical Midwest weather. 🤷🏻 You definitely need a car to get around a lot of the Kansas City area. 🚗 Plenty of good places to eat in OP.

Let me tell ya something, kid. . .I've lived in a number of places, both big and medium-sized. . .And in EVERY ONE of them I met people who said living there was terrible. EVERY ONE! It didn't matter where I was, there was ALWAYS someone telling me I shouldn't have moved there. It doesn't matter where you go, there will always be someone who thinks it's the worst place to be.

I really hope theres a continued push to make more and more affordable housing outside the main city. I would love to consder having a kid with my husband but even our one bedroom apartment takes most of our money we could save with. I suppose in that vein, even though I know it would piss a lot of people off, a rise in minimum wage here would help tremendously and actually encourage us to spend on what's local instead of whats the cheapest(or not spending at all). At this point, having a kid would be the worst financial decision to make for us, not to mention the kid would suffer for that. I assume most would agree if thats the case for many people, then something needs to be done to remedy that. Either way, I appreciate the work you put into this video.

coming from a born here resident of 47 years very informative raised and lived north of the river from the 169 152 intersection area then to rural northern platte county then back to northland 169 corridor and along 152 and 291 and 35 i just really hope they dont develop the attractiveness of the northland its already happening to a point its the uniqueness of the area that is what ive always loved about it i will say that kansas city proper (city limit) does end pretty much at the intersection of 92 hwy and i29 the metro area is pretty much considered where evet local tv station coveeage ends thus it incorporates a vast land area north id say north of platte city and south belton grain valley to east which it also confusingly metro incompassess the entire kansas side minus kck was named after kcmo its a great place ive grown up here north of river

Coming from a different country I cannot understand why homes are designed only at the front. Walk around your neighborhood and look around. Sides of the houses lack any design, what you will see is likely flat walls with randomly placed windows. In most cases that “lack” of design/architecture touch extends to the back of the house, where likely people spend most time. So in a nutshell homes are build for first impression and not for people that live there to appreciate. Just an observation of an outsider. Lastly to add to that, houses are built of sticks and paper, basically how sheds are build outside of US. Something to think about ;)
@movingtokc
@movingtokc 3 күн бұрын
I think that’s an excellent observation and it’s a huge pet peeve of mine. Builders dress up the front of the home for “curb appeal” and the rest is plain and boring.

Don’t move there. It’s a wannabe big city that has micro aggressions. It’s segregated, nothing to do at all. You need a car and you look stupid if you’re walking, the weather isn’t good, the tax is high, the rent cost more than what the city provides. The outer parts are all white, everyone works their life away, the money is terrible. Don’t let having a superbowl football team fool you. That city isn’t good

The main problems here for me as just a normal poor guy working in a warehouse making 23$ per hour. 1. Its super easy to get jobs, BUT even with a good paying job its hard to find an affordable place to live. 1 bedroom apartment rent is over 1000$ and mortages are around 250k on Zillow atleast. Even 23$ an hour has me living check to check with zero savings and barely able to keep my bank account positive. And 2. Almost every stoplight intersection in the city has a couple homeless people begging for money and yelling at cars that drive by....most of which being meth heads cause we have multiple meth capital sub-cites within KC. So basically its hard to afford a home of any kind unless ur a doctor, lawyer, tech guy, etc that makes big time money. If ur a normal lower middle class peasent u are screwed

Fantastic video. I used to live in Hyde Park while at KCAI. Love that neighborhood. I was ready to buy a home there when they were in the 100k range. We decided to move to the country instead. I would recommend that area to anyone wanting to move to KC. Unless you want to live in the suburbs for some unexplainable reason.

I really like Johnson county but overland Park isnt where I'd move. My husband and I grew up in the area and we currently live on the border of Jackson and Johnson. The biggest difference we've seen is that Johnson county has only slightly higher taxes but you can see where those taxes are going; lenexa and Olathe have a TON of splash pads and parks and hiking/biking trails and community gardens and public places are very well maintained. Whereas in Jackson county the taxes are slightly lower but most of the fun things will cost you more money and while pulic areas aren't unkempt they are no where near as well maintained. So, I highly recommend Johnson county just not overland Park lol ❤

the KC road problem will never go away. There are a couple big reasons for that. 1, KC is in the middle of the country and a huge trucking hub and lots of trucks drive through there. Therefore, the roads take a beating from all the Big Semi Trucks. 2, KC lies in an area that it gets a lot of wet winter weather, many times it's kice, not snow. The ice hardens and separates the concrete and asphalt. lots of days where you get snow, it melts, re freezes. it's also a problem for basements if you don't' take care of your gutters. Gutter guards don't work. Humidity is really bad from June to August. worst than most people have ever dealt with. I'm used to it, I have lived north of the River my whole life and love it's rich history. I have also been through an F2 tornado. Very regular event. One other thing I have also hated as I am a car guy is the salt they use on the roads, it rusts cars bad. I also restore classic cars and they are hard to find that don't need a lot of rust repair. KC is a pretty good Pool (billiards), good food, best BBQ in the country, Car city, gotta have a car. WE cleaned the democrats out that were do nothings. Claire McCastle and rino Roy Blunt. We are in a much better place now. We need to get our mayor out. He's not really that great. KC has always had a great BMX, freestyle bmx, skateboarding and roller skating going on. lots of skate parks. Been lots of great freestyle riders in KC. Lots of off road motorcyling events, car events, fishing, hunting.
