Thank you for this very interesting video! Indeed you perfectly nailed the mushroom-photography "problem". I like the macro lens for more "artsy" shots, especially for details of bigger mushrooms with smaller depth of view. But it is difficult when you want to have the "big picture" as you showed. Mushroom photo is IMO a special genre, different from flower photography and different from woodland photography, that makes it very charming.
@keithguppy
@keithguppy 6 күн бұрын
I agree it’s definitely a genre all on his own. There’s just something about mushroom photography that sets it apart from the rest. I very rarely use my macro lens for mushroom photography unless they are very, very small.

To be honest I was guilty of just standing and pointing the camera, but I do now try to look at different perspectives (if I remember) what I tend to forget is to make sure the camera batteries are charged. Nobody likes a smart hornet. I believe that most people photograph from a standing position because that’s how we see things on a daily basis while walking around, changing shooting positions definitely gives me a different perspective when shooting iguanas from a low angle, or from the hip when doing street “stuff”. Be well.
@keithguppy
@keithguppy Ай бұрын
I agree, I think that’s the problem, all the photos have the same feel to them, I tend to go for the lower down shot for a lot of my photos, I don’t it looks pleasing to the eye. It’s an especially good tip for iguana photography lol
@3DThrills
@3DThrills Ай бұрын
I recently built a camera rig by adding a top handle, side handle, field monitor and power bank to my camera. For video especially, the top handle allows you to walk around with the camera at knee-height. The field monitor allows you to comfortably view your framing from all angles. The weight of it all removes any micro-jitters from your video, acting like a gimbal. It gives you that low perspective you are talking about that would be very awkward to achieve in video without the rig.
@3DThrills
@3DThrills Ай бұрын
The best part is not having to keep changing batteries in my Canon M50 because of the power bank. The power bank also runs the copper macro field-light that I built, containing 1600 LEDs.

@keithguppy
@keithguppy Ай бұрын
Thanks Barry, and thank you for your support, much appreciated , It was the perfect conditions, the only other time I could head back is spring tide, I believe the tide recedes out past the shipwrecks, but timing is everything, but you are right, definitely more compositions to be had, i think with the YT compression it's hard to tell, i use the 17-40 L, I usually won't push it past f11-f13 for sharpness, I had a look at 100% on the f19 and 22 images and I would say its acceptably sharp, I would say it had some diffraction but overall not enough to ruin the image.
