Yes it is, if you look through the Highway Code, look at 3. Road junctions (170 - 183), 170, 2nd bullet point, give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning, if they have started to cross they have priority, so give way (see Rule H2). Because it is called roadcraft and exercising a bit of give and take on the road. Rather than politely remain behind the car that was clearly indicating left, you undertook it & no doubt then held it up when the traffic started moving. You gained nothing by this, yet held up another road user, which no doubt you had no thought or concern for. You are correct bikes contribute nothing. They pay nothing towards the upkeep of the roads, the cleaning or repair of them, the maintenance and electricity costs of traffic lights, or a single penny to any cycle lane. @@wibbley1 Wrong - I didn’t delay the driver indicating to turn left. Besides, it was clear they were not going to cut me up. The Highway Code says to not overtake where you would force another road user to slow down - they forced me to.

@@QiuEnnan Clearly indicating left. The video cuts too early, so we cannot see if the blue car you undertook as well, overtakes you before the lights. This is called give & take on the road. You stopped behind the white car & could have remained there, so when the lights changed both it & the blue car in front could move safely without risk, Instead you got as far forward as you could, but sensibly did not try to undertake the bus. I must say that in the videos you post, they all demonstrate safe cycling and an understanding that it is everybody's responsibility to avoid risk, regardless who 'is in the right'. I doubt that you will be featuring in any of Ashley's videos.

@@wibbley1 The driver did not overtake me again before the traffic lights. I moved off ahead of them and they turned left behind me. By the way, I have already sent videos to Ashley before and he said my riding was good.

It was only that one driver behind - basically they were going to overtake me sooner but then realised they couldn’t so braked sharply at the last moment! Then they went past as you see in the video

@@smilerbob ... Just to get stuck at the next red light :) I can't help but smile a little when someone close passes, only for me to catch them up later on... It can be useful sometimes to overtake, but yeah, mostly it's usually quite pointless in built up areas.

@@QiuEnnan most of the cyclists on the road are dressed in Lycra not really going anywhere, whereas most people in cars are driving around for a reason. The amount of fuel a cyclist takes off the road just gets cancelled out with all the cars stuck behind them who have to slow down then accelerate again. Some people have to drive many miles to get to work, where they might do a job that saves thousands of other cars from being on the road. For example in the public transport industry. Yes you can do that in a bike if you are fortunate to live near your work but a lot of people have long commutes.

I am unconvinced that cycling does not reduce pollution - I find the amount of fuel I use when driving is basically independent of how many cyclists I encounter. I could drive everywhere (I have a full driving licence), but is that really a smart use of resources?

For bikes, of course there should be licencing and education. We did the cycling proficiency scheme. Whilst a start, six hours of riding round the playground does not give anybody the road skills required to ride safely on todays busy & congested roads. Pedestrians, yes they need training. We had Tufty & The Green Cross Man at school. Just an hour or two. It should be ongoing tuition throughout the whole of the school years. We see so many idiots just walk out, fixated on their phone, or wearing ear-buds, totally unaware of their surroundings.

@@grahvis Not necessarily. However The Highway Code says to not cycle down the inside of a vehicle indicating or slowing down to turn left. This is guidance but breaking it could be considered careless and inconsiderate cycling

@@QiuEnnan You are not 'undertaking', you are keeping up with traffic in your own lane. Which if done safely (paying attention), is perfectly legal even if it means passing traffic on your right. Highway code rule H3 states: "Do not turn at a junction if to do so would cause the cyclist, horse rider or horse drawn vehicle going straight ahead to stop or swerve. You should stop and wait for a safe gap in the flow of cyclists if necessary." This rule means that even if they had moved into your lane as soon as the bus lane ended, then signalled left to turn into the side road, they should still let you pass on the inside before making the turn. Personally as a cyclist and a driver I hate this rule, I'd probably have stopped as you did as not enough people are aware of it, and to assume the driver is going to let you pass is stupidity. It looks as if the driver did see you in this case as they stopped in the right lane, rather than stopping in the left whilst waiting for pedestrians to cross. They could have planned the turn better to slip in behind you when they had the chance.

In Germany, there are traffic signs underneath the traffic light telling you the rules for the right of way. should there not be any signs it turns into a left gives way / right has right of way (rechts vor links) intersection because four way stops are highly inefficient and they desensitize people towards stop signs, as they are reserved for intersections that truly need your full attention-

I think they had seen me - if they hadn’t they probably would’ve gone into the bus lane earlier and stopped in it to give way to the pedestrians. Ironically if I had ridden down the nearside of that vehicle I would’ve either been in the wrong or in the casualty department!

In the UK 🇬🇧 we have a lot of mini roundabouts where you give way to your right. I think like the US stop sign system with broken signals we should treat our signals in the same manor as a stop sign OR as a mini roundabout and yield to those coming from the right.

My driving instructor kept telling me to rely on headlights in situations like this or driving on country roads at night which I simply ignored as obviously cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders don't have them!
