A lot of people seem to not understand the advice in The Highway Code! Rule 186 states: 'Signals and position… when taking an exit to the right or going full circle, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise signal right and approach in the right-hand lane keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to exit the roundabout signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.' It also says that the rules in this section 'apply to all vehicles' and 'should be read by all drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders.' Finally, the guidance for cyclists also says 'full details about the correct procedure at roundabouts without cycle facilities are contained in Rules 184 to 190'! www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/using-the-road-159-to-203#rule184

It is perfectly OK for cyclists (and horses) to go around the roundabout in the outdise lane even when turning right. With horses this is pretty much essential... (rule 186)

@@hippophile Finally someone who actually has basic understanding of The Highway Code… I really hope most people in this comments section don’t drive or operate any other type of vehicle. However, the code also says you can use either lane.

Is it not the case tbat cyclists can use the left lane to turn right as long as they signal clear enough for other road users to see
@QiuEnnan6 ай бұрын
yeah, both ways are allowed, but when doing this people may turn left across your path.
@xaiano7946 ай бұрын
Yes however that is far more dangerous for the cyclist because if you are turning right and using the left lane, drivers who are going straight on will try to pass, meaning you could get hit from a steep angle, it's much safer, due to inattentive drivers, to move to the right as people are far less likely to undertake turning right as it is an unnatural line to take.

@@QiuEnnan you should be signalling at 0.22 and moving into lane 1 at that point. Unless you intend to use lane 2 after you've exited the rounabout, which clearly wasn't the case. You should have been in lane 1 long before you attempted to go in that lane. Not saying the driver wasn't driving dangerously, but you also left it late.

@@VidskiF20 Did you think that maybe he looked behind him and saw the car coming so didn't go into that lane to avoid becoming brown bread? keep in mind unlike cars its a lot harder to signal while turning on a cycle with one hand on the handlebars and one in the air.

The car was in the left lane while you where in the right lane, maybe get in the left lane a bit earlier and let people know where you are going with a long and assertive hand signal and looking over left shoulder so people see you looking and that gives them a clue where you are going.

Cyclists do pay tax, the same tax every tax payer pays for the maintenance of the roads. Motorists pay an extra tax on emissions which is NOT ring-fenced for the maintenance of the roads. Most cyclists are also motorists, so the majority pay the same as you. As for having a number plate, it would be so small you couldn't read it, and the polis don't have the numbers or where-with-all to catch bad motorists who do have plates, so how would they manage to catch cyclists, scooter riders, and pedestrians?
