The pink color would drive me up the wall. That said, why would someone choose the pink version of Barrina's T8 LED grow lights instead of the pinkish white or the mainly white (5000k) versions?
@mi-tinker13 күн бұрын
@@MickF04 from the web…Grow lights often appear purple because they are primarily composed of red and blue LED lights, which when combined, create a purple hue; this is because both red and blue wavelengths are crucial for plant growth and photosynthesis, making a mix of the two the most efficient way to deliver the necessary light spectrum for plants
@rickysturgis461415 күн бұрын
Didn’t read all comments to see if anyone else pointed this out; but, the material that’s peeling off that you refer to as a “patch” is actually parging, and helps give the wall it’s structural rigidity, it’s not just a finish coat, but part of the structural system of the wall itself. As an architect with a similar foundation approximately 114 years old with the same issues, I did a lot of research for repair. I would stay away from type S mortar for exterior or interior applications with stone foundations (type s is actually more appropriate for exterior/ sub grade use). type S is more rigid than N and won’t let the foundation flex at all, which will in time actually cause the stone to crack. The mortar in this case isn’t structural at all, but rather a compressive joint for the stone to sit on, so you don’t need type S, or even N for that matter. Lime mortar is ideal as it stays pliable and will flex with the wall as it moves without cracking/ fracturing as cement mortar is likely to do, albeit probably not for several years or even decades. But with your stone and lime mortar, the parging, or final (whitish color) outer layer, you have a full structural assembly. With that said I started repairing my foundation with type N mortar mix, as lime isn’t as readily available. There are previous cement mortar repairs/ repointing done maybe 20 + years ago to the house that have started to pull away from the stone, that will need to be replaced themselves sooner than later. Also I’m in the northeast, so plenty of cold weather and temp fluctuations that can increase/ speed up mortar degradation. My 2¢, good luck to all needing to repair a foundation however you choose!
@mi-tinker13 күн бұрын
Thank you for your constructive comments and information. Very thoughtful and detailed. I have been fortunate not to have any issues with my repairs with the mortar used (with the older repairs being 7-10 years old). Note being they are all on the interior walls where the temperature typically stays between 60-72 degrees. Based on your feedback and others I’ll use lime or the N mortar on foundation repairs exposed to the elements. Again thanks. Good luck with your repairs!

@ ofcourse and thanks! Older homes are a beauty for their character and charm but a challenge for upkeep and repairs; kudos to you for tackling such a challenging diy project and I’m sure you’ve giving many others the confidence needed to tackle similar projects of their own. Double kudos for the extra effort of sharing the experience! One side note/ caveat I’ll add to my definitive of using Portland cement based mortars damaging the stone; I’m not sure it 100% will damage the stone, I think that largely depends on the stone, ground water/ moisture conditions, and the prevalence of freeze/ thaw cycles and the propensity of your foundation to shift or heave. So I’d correct myself and say there’s just a risk given worse case conditions there could be problems using cement based mortars. Given the lack of scientific evidence to know what’s safe or not safe for any given foundation, a mason will replace mortar in a historic foundation “in kind”, as a safety, because the wall survived with the original mix. No masonry company or mason would risk their license or an insurance claim by doing something not proven. But doing it yourself is obviously fair game, and most likely not an issue. Best of luck of again, cheers!

@rickysturgis4614 Thanks again. Older homes do have great and unique challenges for upkeep... mine keeps me on my toes! Prior to making a "how to" video, I try to research the best methods to take on a project before starting. The interesting part is, I used a "This Old House Video" for my reference and materials list. You would think they would know what to use right? Even the experts have differing opinions on what is the right way to make a repair. Go Figure! Just to add more detail, the switch lever looks exactly in position that matches your video….below a plastic nipple…we’ve been manually using our finger to push down lever to get water out. How does new cover work, when we push glass into rubber piece?…I can’t understand how that activates switch down to send water…..any thoughts on this process?, thanks again.
@mi-tinker19 күн бұрын
@jimtaylor, Did you get it figured out? I'm guessing the switch you have, or its position is out of alignment. If the water is streaming when the new cover is in place, something is pressing on the internal lever under the nipple (engaging the on/ off switch) That should be the only way this would happen. Something is out of alignment or maybe the new plate is the wrong type for your refrigerator. Does your new cover plate exactly match your old plate? If so check to see that the internal switches are still in the same position as when you took the plate off the very first time. Good Luck!

I support your decision to stay with gas, however for me personally, I was a little tired of gas mowers... noisy, finicky pull-start, oil changes, gas cans, old gas... and so on... Considering this EGO mower was the first (and only) problem I have had with this mower since purchasing it in 2017 (7 years ago), I'm still really happy I purchased it! I'm even still using the same original battery and looking at purchasing the EGO snow blower. Cheers!

I bought one of these toilets five years ago. Loved it. Strong flush, quiet and quick fill. I've bought three more since then...love them all. Just yesterday I did replace the silicon seal in the flush valve of the very first one, which I may have damaged from using bleach tablets in the tank (the instructions do say _not_ to use bleach in tank). The seal cost $5.00 and took about five minutes to change without tools.

This is very inspiring. I just bought a 1870 home with dry stacked basement walls. That's what they told me but , it has large gaps and I need to do this. I have much larger gaps all around the basement. It's getting cold is this something that can only be done in warm weather?
@mi-tinker3 ай бұрын
Hi @heidistrong4705 Thanks for the note and asking the question... I have tuckpointed/repaired an exterior rock wall foundation in cold weather... however, we enclosed the section we were working on with at large tarp and used a forced air heater to keep the temps closer to 50+ degrees. We worked at one end and the heater was blowing at the opposite open end (not letting the heater get to close to us or the tarp for safety) Our hands appreciated the warmer working conditions too. It would be a good idea to check your mortar specs to see what they recommend for best working temperatures. I know it helped us to have the forced air heater for our emergency foundation repair. Best of Luck!
@heidistrong47053 ай бұрын
@mi-tinker Thank you for the reply. My hands would want the warmth as well. With this being inside my basement then I should be able to start working it even with colder weather coming. We have probably another month before temps stay below 50° for the high. I will bring a portable heater down with me to keep it comfortable.

Suggestion for anyone doing this fix. Assuming your issue is the spring itself, do yourself a favor and buy more than one. I replaced ours in 2023 and the spring broke again this month (10.24). I dont know if it is a bad design or the spring is intended to break so the mullion isn't damaged. Whatever the case buy an extra or two
