**Is your Samsung Refrigerator French Door divider not working as it should? This video will show you how to replace the mullion spring and the "bush fix" to repair the broken mullion retaining sleeve. It has handy tips not seen in other videos throughout and offers closing thoughts (rationale) on why I chose to do this repair vs purchasing a new mullion or hiring an appliance service provider to make the repair.
Refrigerator Model: RF261BEAESR
**PLEASE NOTE: the mullion is plastic and can crack or break while attempting this repair. Take caution when releasing the clips. If you look at many of the "other" KZbin videos on this topic, they edit or don't show you how they open the mullion in any detail... Makes you wonder why they don't show this... right?
My bush fix is not meant to be permanent- however, it may last for a number of months or even years, which is all the original manufacturer's product lasted before being out of warranty. This bush fix hopefully will last longer than what I intend on keeping the refrigerator which has had a number of problems since purchasing in 2015. The most problematic issue includes it icing up behind the lower right crisper drawer, dripping water in the bottom cheese/meat tray, and icing up the ice cube maker rendering it useless. over the last 2 years, I've made four attempts to fix the problem all of which have fixed the symptoms for 10-14 days (including fixing the ice maker) but then it frosting/freezing up again. The refrigerator is simply not designed to function well.

Ma'am, thank you so much for this video. Your method of applying tape to keep the connector in place is genius. I'm a phone technician, and this repair reminded of the many spring replacements I had to do for the Motorola i860s and 70s, back when flip phones were still a thing 😅. Again, thank you so much for this, I was about to give Samsung the $200 for a new Mullion because I did not think I would be able to find a replacement spring.

After watching the video I was able to repair the flap door as shown. This was the only video that showed the JB Weld that was needed for the repair, and I had that ordered that product and had it on hand the day the spring and parts arrived. I'm impressed with the process of repairing a no longer made item which could have spelled the end for my Samsung.

Hi, thanks for the great fix and video. Wanted to put it out there that if the fridge is in warranty this is still a fine fix. Per federal law, opening a device cannot void the warranty unless it can be proved that you caused damage yourself. The item is clearly already broken, this is all fix and the fridge should still be able to receive further factory service. Thanks again for the JB Weld fix, it didn't occur to me to be this handy on the fix.

We just moved into a house that has a Samsung fridge and I didn't know the mullion was supposed to pop back. This is the stupidest refrigerator I've ever owned. So now I know it needs a fix. Not sure I'm as talented as you at fixing, though. Thanks for this informative video.

We have had a few problems with our refrig over the years as well. Particularly with it icing up in the refrigerator portion of the box... then the ice maker stops working as well. It is frustrating. The Mullion/divider fix is not hard. Just takes time. The way I look at attempting the fix is that I can't make it any worse by trying. Either I make it work with a little time and effort, or it stays broken until I order the new part. Either way you save big bucks on a service call of $200-$400. Best of luck to you!

thanks for this no-nonsense video; since you made this about 18 months ago, is your fix still holding? we are contemplating this for a slightly differing Samsung model - it has the spring and bushing external to the flipper, more accessible, but the mount for the spring (on the flipper side) has completely shattered after two broken spring repairs; given we also have similar icing problems (less frequent i think since we are in a dry climate); we are hesitant to buy a new flipper on this problem-child fridge, so the crucial information is: how long a bush fix is likely to last; thanks again!

Yes, the fix is still holding 18 months later! 👍🏼 FYI: our refrigerator also ices up I’ve tried 5 different KZbin fixes and none last longer than 10-14 days. Then it freezes up again. We’ve given up on a fix that and have reverted back to ice cube trays since our ice maker freezes up too.

Thank you so much for doing this video. I have a samsung #rf268abrs model which has the spring assembly on the outside of the flap. The plastic piece that holds the spring broke along with the spring. I had a spare spring and was going to buy the outer housing that has the spring holders molded in the piece. Hi, it might help however, the condensation / water you are referring to is an ongoing problem with ours as too, I believe many people have this problem with this refrig. I've tried 4 different fixes to keep it frosting up and dripping under the drawers (and ice maker freezing up) and nothing has helped we are unfortunately back to using an ice tray as well.

Hey again, just wanted to check back in and let you know that I successfully pulled off this fix… Turns out that the spring I needed is actually located on the bottom small hinge, totally different system than the one you showed. They sell two different kinds of hinges on Amazon, so I bought both, and I needed the other one, that is more symmetrically shaped. After pulling everything apart, I learned that that wasn’t even necessary for my fridge, just needed to pop in the little hinge at the bottom of the unit. Either way, I wanted to thank you for making the video and demystifying the whole process, because I never would have done it without that. Thanks for the insight..!

Suggestion for anyone doing this fix. Assuming your issue is the spring itself, do yourself a favor and buy more than one. I replaced ours in 2023 and the spring broke again this month (10.24). I dont know if it is a bad design or the spring is intended to break so the mullion isn't damaged. Whatever the case buy an extra or two

Hi there! Was wondering if you may know how to remove seal caps on a Samsung refrigerator? We moved into a house that has a refrigerator I would like to remove but it’s too wide with the doors/drawer on to get through the doorway. I can remove the doors and drawer but not the seal caps. I would appreciate any advice. Here’s an example of what type of seal caps since I can’t upload a photo to this comment: Samsung Refrigerator French Door Seal Cap #SAM-DA67-02306A

Thanks for the question. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with the door seal cap. Can you easily remove any trim from your house doorframe to get it through? Best of luck!!

Mullions are the brace or bracket that joins two windows. An Astragal is what covers a gap between two doors. The more ya know..... 😉

I feel your pain. I've tried fixing the frosting up problem 5 different ways. Ice develops under the crisper AND ice maker stops working. After defrosting and trying multiple ways to fix it it only lasts 10 days- 2 weeks and the ice maker freezes up and stops working again. I understand there is some sort of class action suit regarding so many people having problems.

@@mi-tinkerthere are some good vids about fixing the icing problems in the refrigerator section. You willl have to watch a few vids bc no one tells the whole story so you have to piece it together so persevere. I did it and it’s held for a year now. It is not for beginners but you seem handy. No special tools required just patience. You have to buy an auxiliary heater wire and wire it into the existing power wire. Also you have to put in an insulator kit. I think all the parts were $60 or so on Amazon. -The Samsung guy will come out if you have an ice maker issue. I had to defrost it a couple times and it was brutal. They replaced the entire ice maker unit. Call them and you may be surprised. It’s been 4 months since that and it’s ok. My French door fridge is 5 yrs old. Samsung is pretty bad. Too bad Sears went out of biz. I loved kenmore.

@chilitoday Thanks for the info. If you can send any of the KZbin links you found helpful, that would be great. I’ve really tried 5 different fixed and within 10-14 days things ice up again. My ice maker works fine when it’s not iced up.

Kind of pointless to fix the hinge when the plastic (on the door and not the flap) around the top mount is broken. Its ashamed that the top & bottom hinge don't get the same structural attention that the middle hinge does

The top hinge mount on ours was not broken just the spring and plastic spring housing... the bush fix has been working great.
