Good summary. As a 70s girl myself I also remember elephant pants. Big voluminous pant legs that were the precursor to bell bottoms. I had a halter top but stopped wearing it because I got the wrong sort of attention when I did. Short legged overalls were also a trend in the late 70s. Always had to wear them with one bib unbuckled. Then there was the ponytail holder. It was really a piece of leather with 2 holes and a stick threaded through. So simple but kind of cool.

What I loved about shopping for clothes in the 70s was not everything was a brand we had in Sydney Australia a lot of clothes shops that had a huge range of clothes that they buyer put together so there was a mix of labels, styles etc now it is impossible to find a clothes shops that is not a brand which drives me crazy as I loved the variety it meant you could find something unique. Also the clothes were well made as we consumers would not pay for poorly made clothes and refunds were expected if it wasn’t quality.

You’re so right-shopping in the ’70s had a unique charm that’s hard to replicate today. Plus, the quality back then really mattered-you got what you paid for. It’s no wonder you miss those days! Thanks for sharing such a vivid memory of what shopping used to be like.
