Class of '75 too. Graduated 5/25/75-- day before by 18th birthday. Not sure when my 50th is yet; most likely in Oct. My high school was 4 years, so the Class of '75 ('71-'75) with '73 as the midway point, was the ONLY one that pre-dated, was during, and post-dated Watergate. The 'forgotten' section of the decade. Weakening ties to the '60s then Watergate, OPEC, the end of the wonderful post-war (1946-'72) economy my parents (and I) greatly benefitted from, occurring right after the near simultaneous end of the Gold Standard and the Vietnam War winding down. Stagflation that never really left, but has worsened in recent years of course. My sister (b. 1961) was in the drastically different section of the Class of '79. Like the '60s, there were really 3 sections of the '70s, and the Class of '75 was early to early mid. Unfortunately, they've been cliched-out by our post-high school years that started immediately after: Jaws, Charlie's Angels, Star Wars of course, and other things. I wrote 2 record reviews in early '74 (jr. year) for the high school paper, Cat Steven's Buddha and the Chocolate Box, and Carly Simon's 'Hotcakes'. My fantasy record to have written an astonishing review of would have been 1979's 'Candy-0' by The Cars. At 22, I missed that opportunity by several years, but still listen to it quite often.

Class of 1975 as well. Not going to waste even ONE second of any 50 year reunion. High school sucked, most of the kids were clicky little jerks. To heck with all of them.

The Beatlrs breaking up was like a spell being broken. I remember how exciting it was to buy albums Talking about the environment was exciting. Movies were amazing then! Even though things were not always easy for everyone - it was easier to get a college education. People did not buy as much stuff then - that did not start until the 80s.

You’ve captured the '70s perfectly! The Beatles breaking up really did feel like the end of an era, but buying albums back then? Pure magic. Talking about the environment felt fresh and hopeful, and the movies-absolutely legendary! College was more accessible, and people lived with less but seemed to make it work. It was a different kind of excitement, one that really shaped the way we see things today.

Punk rock was great.
@WayBackAmericana16 күн бұрын
Absolutely! Punk rock brought so much raw energy and rebellion to the '70s. The music, the style, the attitude-it was a total game-changer. 🎸🔥

SNL was great ghen. bad make up. Bad hair. Bad clothes. Roller skating So many people amoked then.
@WayBackAmericana16 күн бұрын
SNL in the '70s was pure gold-so raw and hilarious! And you’re right, the bad makeup, hair, and clothes just added to the charm. Roller skating everywhere and clouds of cigarette smoke-it really was a whole vibe back then!

Mmmm, are you sure about that? If you were born in '62, you would have been in the class of 1980, making your high school years in the late '70s.

Candle in the wind????...did not come out in the 70s
@WayBackAmericanaКүн бұрын
I make a lot of mistakes and try to check and double check, still never surprised at a goof up. Candle in the Wind was released in 1973 on Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album. A timeless tribute to Marilyn Monroe!

Sorry Dee, you're waaay off with that comment. It came out in late '71, and had been out for several years by '76. If you don't believe us here, then by all means, look it up for yourself.
