It's crazy; until recently, I had no idea cattails were editable, let alone the entire thing. I literally have a bunch of them that grow in my yard.

Does barberry or goldenseal have more Berberine??
@FoundYouForaging20 күн бұрын
I'm not aware of any one who has made this comparison . From having harvested both and based on classification in taxonomy I have to assume Barberry wins . It's taxonomy links it to barberine . Great question . If I find any citations on the subject I'll pass it on

"Hyacinth" is mildly toxic to humans. These are "grape hyacinth" or muscari, which are not true hyacinths, and which yield a forager's treasure. Please do not make these recipes using hyacinths, though!

Hello do you guys have to do like mushroom walks in Indiana I'm from Southern Indiana and there is no mushroom walks around me it would be really nice with someone with your knowledge to do and host mushroom walks
@FoundYouForaging2 ай бұрын
Join Indiana mushrooms on face book . At the top of their page they list several scheduled mushroom walks , foreys and mychoblitz to help with sequencing. Stephen Russel oversees a large portion of indianas Inat . I go to southern Indiana once a year at no scheduled date but enjoy Brown county and Yellowwood state parks . The next Dawn and I visit we will reach out and see if your schedule allows a nature hike

I’ve lived in da yoop for the last five years And just started getting Into foraging. I’m struggling to find Stands of ash and Elm. It seems like I’m just surrounded by coniferous trees, Any tips on how to find Good morel areas?
@FoundYouForaging2 ай бұрын
In Northern Michigan stands of aspen seem to produce well . Burn areas also produce the tear following the burn . The UP does have morels . I hope you find some this year . Don't forget Apple trees . Large mature Apple trees are great places to look .

Is it strange that FYF and Learn your land never seem to get to enjoy porcini mushrooms? It's too bad, considering how much time you spend in the woods, that you never find them to make a video with. I heard that the Porcini is a delicious mushroom, and even heard rumors that it can be found in Michigan. Personally, I have brought home baskets full of mushrooms that look and taste exactly like porcini, but they turned out to be some other mushroom whose name escapes me. As does the location I found them at, strangely enough.. :D

I've heard "false morels" referred to a lot as beef steak. But I believe Fistulina hepatica is the true beef steak. Do they only grow on black oak in Michigan? I've never found one and it's going on my "hope I can find someday" mushroom bucket list!
@FoundYouForaging3 ай бұрын
In Northern Michigan I've found them on white oak . Trees can be still living . I find them on red,black and white oak so far . I hope you find one . It's a great tasting mushroom as well .
