How much throttle is the train using at that speed? MW or amps. 288 kmph is super fast and its exciting to watch the country side go by you so beautifully. 3 powered bogies per end correct.
@HotAxleBox Жыл бұрын
12MW per set, Yes only 6 powered bogies on a full set, three at eithe end of the train. 2 on the power car and 1 on the first trailer.

One could say that Stratford International has become a metaphor for the UK - ditto Ashford and Ebbsfleet. Business isn't calling here.....as it speeds through to the Continent. Very sad.....but we only have ourselves to blame. Good capture btw. But my train metaphor is worth thinking about.
@HotAxleBox Жыл бұрын
Stratford being an International aspect, I suspect was an entirely political run to get funding. Ashford used to have a few international services a day but when the Velaro fleet came in, an errant voltage spike was causing the BRS PLC's to blow. It took a long time to understand and repair the fault, think they ended up using a grounding contactor circuit. I suppose having services stopping at these stations also increases the journey times to the continent, something Eurostar I feel wouldn't want. So the next best thing is cart passengers to London for a direct train. Not to mention that by the time you hit 186, you need to be slowing for ebbsfleet. It makes a lot of business sense to not stop at those stations but for the passengers I can understand it being a huge pain in the butt.

@@HotAxleBox I once went on a visit to St Leonards depot in the early 1970s and there was an exploded 4SRKT being stripped down. The block had fractured from one end in a long elongated V across the centre line of 3 cylinders, really gone bang for some reason. It's the only time I've seen or heard of one of these catastrophically failing, very robust engines normally.

Hi, is the cab really this noisy? Back in 2012 when we travelled from London to Paris(Gare du Nord) by Eurostar, even at 300 kmph it didn't really feel like the train was moving at all. Only the other track flying past revealed any sense of the train's true speed. Why would the cab be this noisy?
@HotAxleBox2 жыл бұрын
Yes it's quite noisy, mainly because the powercar is quite heavy and doesn't have and air suspension on the two powered bogies on this vehicle. So a lot of the noise you're hearing is traction motor and reductor/final drive gearbox noise.
@CST19922 жыл бұрын
@@HotAxleBox Oh, I get that. Plus it explains why there's little noise in the passenger compartments because the bogies are below the partition between two coaches.

Question why does the drivers side windscreen look small?
@HotAxleBox2 жыл бұрын
I believe it was a modification done in BR days whereas the windscreen was replaced for an impact and shatter resistant type. This followed several incidents where objects were thrown at loco fronts as they passed, injuring crews.
