Thumper Cold Start

1317 (207017) unit on first start having been winterised for the best part of 7 months.
Engine was started after pre-checks had been completed.

Used to almost ignore these DEMUs as they were all I'd see in my area. Weird seeing it now.

Can you imagine what it'll be like in say 20 years? Imagine seeing modern DMUs etc on pres lines!! Hah.

I remember when these used to branch off the main London to Brighton line at South Croydon. The drivers always opened the throttle on the climb up to Sanderstead. We lived a mile from the line but could hear them loud and clear.

Still hear ours thrashing through the woods from quite a distance, a very distinct sound indeed.

@@mt508 1317 at the Spa Valley Railway is currently having repairs done to it before it can go back into service. Keep an eye out for their advertising on Facebook as to when it's back out.

Also Hastings diesels have 1001, lovely sound it makes. Apparently you can hear it coming a mile away
