I think this happened to many of us. Before I discovered Opeth, I personally didn’t like growls or music that featured them. However, when I first listened to Opeth, it took me the first two minutes to get used to it, and by the end of the 11 minutes, I liked it. After listening to their entire discography, they became my favorite band

The Lion’s Roar (song) a widely interpreted to be a rebuke against western religion. The Lion’s Roar features heavily in Buddhism and is thought to be a sign of the deepest type of happiness despite outward adverse events. So she’s singing abour rediscovering happiness from years gone past after losing her faith maybe?

Amazing review with detailed voice breakdown. When Dolly sings for God, there isn't stopping her. You just feel the same vessel God is using......HER.

I see that "Emmylou" (from the Polar Music Prize) has been suggested already, but I would like to add their cover of Emmylou's "Red Dirt Girl" from the same performance. Both hit right in the feels.

Wouldn't it be better just to watch some AJ Lee videos without also watching someone else watch them? I do recommend it. AJ Lee is great. There's lots of her stuff on KZbin. You don't need to watch some stranger watching.

Nick Cave Australia's Leonard Cohen ? Just as Paul Kelly is Australia's Bob Dylan, but as much as I like Dylan, Kelly's lyrics match Dylan's in every way. Who did he remind you of ? Cohen maybe ?

Rosalie, you probably will never revisit this thread. Please take it from me that we IQ fans have little notion about the lyrics, except that there's always tension, dissatisfaction and unspecified threats. Regarding the art - you should check out the English Pre-Raphaelites; the female model is in the genre of a "stunner". Love your approach to the music.

Funnily, Neil Fallon sings his leads like he's preaching a sermon. He had an injury in his neck from headbanging when they were younger, so now instead of headbanging along, he sort of pulls the crowd's attention like he's telling everyone some of the most important information they'll hear. That all said, his lyrics are a mass of literary and philosophical references along with themes of old Americana and nods to politics. Normally their songs have a theme, idea, or message, but they're mainly having fun making catchy lyrical puzzles for people who want to know more, while melting the faces of people at the show for the atmosphere and good times.

Some of the lines portrays a psychopath returning to his prey, some of them rendering him guiltless. A frequent topic through his body of work . Most people never reflect on who they are in a social context so a few more Nicks' out there could be helpful. Thanks!
