Being a huge fan of DCD since the 80's I went to the first Dead Can Dance concert in Mexico city in 1996, she has sort of a gigantic tubular voice spiritual power I've never seen/heard anywhere else, Lisa Gerrard's voice just filled all the space and travelled enormously through us up and down multiple times, very electrical motion and magnetic permanence, I've never had so many sustained goosebumps in all my life.

Lisa Gerard is simply magnificent. I was first introduced to her in the 90s when in Basement Discs (a record store in Melbourne, which sadly closed this year) and the store owner recommended a Dead Can Dance album. Not only a glorious tone and range to her voice, but the fact she can convey such emotion and meaning in a language that nobody other than herself can “understand”.

She lived several years in a KIBUTZ in PAKISTAN....her main orientel influence.... This music genre is called WORLD MUSIC,a universal music which dont need words,just music and voice directly into your heart everybody understands around the world ......

I know Hans Zimmer persuaded Ridley Scott to use her voice in 'Gladiator.' It wouldn't have been the same film without her. Perfect timing because her genius was at its peak. Back then, she wasn't singing memorized notes. Both singer and a wide range of changing tones were inseparable, perpetually and mystically discovering one another over endless unique moments unto themselves.

I’ve had one song on my phone playlist for years by Dead Can Dance. I never searched out other songs, but the song is called Host of Seraphim, and I heard it off a movie called The Mist. Right when she started singing, I recognized her voice from that song. Both that song and this song have a very dark but beautiful feel to it. It’s like the theme song to a nightmare. Like you said, very unique for sure.

I've seen her and Dead Can Dance many times live and it was always another level. Simply amazing. It's hard to analyze it, it's just very spiritual and straight from the soul.

It's like a cauldron of sadness, regret, pain, loss, remorse, hate, fear, anger and darkness was poured over your body and soul which consumed you with all the worst feelings and experiences you had in your life. Then. Light appears, then hands reach out grasping you with care, comfort , love and pull you from the dark and stop your torment and fill you with love. As you rise you realize your sins are forgiven and all who you love are watching you come home, forever.

You must do some Dead Can Dance reactions to get the full vibe of Lisa's (and Brens) powerful voice. I saw Lisa perform live with Dead Can Dance in Santa Monica, Ca for the live taping of their Towardsthe Within album. A incredible show with so many types of instruments being used and styles of music being performed . I got the chance to meet the entire band after the show and it was a blast seeing the different off stage side of them! Lisa tends to sing in a non language but made up sounds of her own which you could swear not knowing she was singing in a ancient language of some sort

Always like the sadness and minor tones like this! I like Lisa she cames some outhere to rise up our native culture to westerns. They can understand Lisa but our natives songs are too "exotic", greetings Lisa!

Yes she sings in her own language, but she can doubletrack that.

I have a different hypothesis about their language. Adele has an impossible range, you know that. I've heard Denzel say he "prays to the spirits for strength" before every role. Look how many entertainers attend the "spirit cookings". They invite spirits/muses/demons to possess them. That's what a spirit cooking is. Now look at the titles of their songs; "sacr!f!ce", "summoning the muse", "the serpent's egg", and "the host of seraphim". Seraphim are a class of angels, which includes the watchers. I'd bet the ones she's singing about are the fallen variety, and the language is one spoken by her muse .... millennia ago. It's beautiful, but it sounds like a eulogy for the world. Speaking of sacr!f!ce, look how many entertainers have personal tragedy precede a great success/advance/string of hits; Clapton, Plant, Jordan, etc... Industry wide, they wear their s@t@nism on their sleeves.

In my humble opinion, too much analysis of the “language” origin, and inexplicably very little actual reaction to, and appreciation of, one of the most gifted vocalists in musical history.
