It is in support of the Arabs not against. The song mentions how the Zulu, Arabs and Irish have been hurt by the British, but it was not a fair fight since they had better weapons

This is not a "version", this is the original. Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych worked on it from 1901 to 1916. In 1936 it was translated into English and called "Carols of the Bells". The composer was killed by the Soviet secret service or KGB, I don't remember exactly (you can google which forces and how, if you want to be more specific)
