I was assigned to watch this for a class, but end up really liking it. The part where you said “We can’t introduce anything new until we are fluent in the lenguage of our own domain” really made me think of this other quote that goes “To create great art you got to consume great art.” We are the mix between everything we consume, and what we create talk about what we see, hear, eat, etc. I study Strategic design and i think this is a must watch documentary. Well doneee! :)

A curious question: in the documentary "Everything Is a Remix", did you face any problems related to copyright due to the use of excerpts from the songs? Or did you get permission to use them all? How did it work? Thanks for the content.

The report states that Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election was illegal and occurred "in sweeping and systematic fashion",[10][11][12] and was welcomed by the Trump campaign as it expected to benefit from such efforts.[13][14][15] It also identified multiple links between Trump associates and Russian officials and spies,[16] about which several persons connected to the campaign made false statements and obstructed investigations.[4] Mueller later stated that his investigation's findings of Russian interference "deserves the attention of every American".[17]

This decision was based on an Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) opinion that a sitting president is immune from criminal prosecution,[21][22][23] and Mueller's belief that it would be unfair to accuse the president of a crime even without charging him because he would have no opportunity to clear his name in court; furthermore it would undermine Trump's ability to govern and preempt impeachment.[19][22][24][21][25] As such, the investigation "does not conclude that the President committed a crime"; however, "it also does not exonerate him",[26][27] From Wikipedia. Not hard to look up. If you don't believe it, read the fucking report. For fuck's sake

Say what you will about Alex Jones, but the guy did warn about a big attack months before 9/11. In July 2001, he literally said the government would use bin Laden as a scapegoat for a major false flag to justify war. Whether you believe him or not, that’s a pretty wild prediction to get right.

I thought this came down to the minority communities where cultural artefacts came from, and whether in the larger cultural discourse they felt like their voices were sidelined, especially in regards to those cultural artefacts. So yeah, people in Japan love it when Americans dress in traditional attires, but that’s because in Japan they’re secure in knowing that nobody’s hijacking the mic from them, figuratively speaking, and they can speak up if needed. Contrast that with being part of a minority community inside the US in the 2000s, suddenly noticing your clothes, food or medicine catch on and some dude removed from your culture promotes it, and has the platform to do so without acknowledging you. Meanwhile you in this community barely have any visibility, so it’s harder to speak up. That’s what appropriation feels like, I think.

In my opinion, the ending is way too optimistic: It seem to me you misrepresented the anti-AI artists' charges. It's not really about creativity, but compensation and attention. If you can get your art fix - general or of a specific artist - from using an image generator etc. (because this surpasses digital visual art), you don't need to follow an/that artist anymore and potential become a supporter. You get it for free and the artist needs to look for other income sources, which might impede on their ability to create new art. The problem, which you acknowledged earlier in the video, is more about job loss than copyright infringement. Although artist don't like that either, but on that front I more or less side with you. In conclusion, AI + capitalism sucks. Dope video otherwise.

Cultural appropriation is a myth fueled by our incessant need for angertainment . We seek out reasons to be offended. We ask others "is this bad, should I be offended?" If you have to ask, the answer is no.

"Of all humanity's technological advances, artificial intelligence is the most morally ambiguous from inception. It has the potential to create either a utopia or a dystopia." Based on our current trajectory, I'd have to say it will be equal parts for both the good and the bad, which will make it all the more difficult to assess the true intentions of AI. I don't think there is any chance we will abandon this technology based on some artistic preclusion and instead, the capitalistic forces that hold the reigns of power will only see dollar signs until it also ultimately infringes on their IP as well. If Elon Musk goes through with creating an AI game studio, I have no doubt that this will be the future of many industries as people with too much money and a lack of intelligence inevitably think that AI will solve all their problems.

I think this video changed my view on AI in the art community. I still hate it, anybody who calls AI art “art” or themselves an “artist” is kidding themselves for the very reason you said: AI has no creativity or innovation, no sense of the actual thought and feeling behind art. That hasn’t changed for me. I’m also VERY against your “just adapt” argument, because that makes me question your actual sympathy towards artists in this predicament and sounds very much like “just accept you lost your job and give it up.” However, adapting for the use of it to assist the process of churning out art whilst leaving humans at the very forefront due to AI never being capable of producing what we can? I’d love that, I really would. I’m also not entirely against the whole spirit of it anymore. It’s ethical as long as people aren’t passing it off as art; typing in a prompt and sharing the results isn’t inherently bad, and as long as it’s adjusted to take only copyright free images I think it’s a solid recreational thing. The fact of the matter is, however: corporations don’t think like that. And in the end, THAT is what we as artists are fighting against. Like pulling a kid away from a cookie jar, we want to pull big entertainment away from putting artists out on the streets to churn a twisted and robotic product out into the world instead of real art.

Led Zeppelin's biggest rip off I think was actually the fact that When they couldn't get Terry Reid as a lead singer (because of a label contract), they got R. Plant who copied Terry's very unique wailing singing style. And this wailing style became copied and became a big contribution of 70s rock singing, but it started with Terry -rather unknown.
