Oh boy, the tier designation has to do with money allocation in US government speak. The Italians don’t have a “tier” designation…😂😂😂

I went thru Marine boot on Parris Island in '74...at that time the age cutoff was 27 for Marines. We were all 17, 18 and 19 year olds but we did have one guy who was 27 in my platoon. One night on guard duty me and him were out walking a post in the middle of east bum fuck Egypt and we had a whispered conversation. He asked me how my body was holding up, I said my body had no issues but I was feeling the mental stress. I asked him how he was doing and the poor guy almost cried telling me how his body hurt day and night and he didn't think he could take much more...he ended up being a drop, I don't know what for, we never paid attention to the drops, they just disappeared and everyone moved up one bunk. We started with 77 recruits in my platoon and graduated with 37, so over a 50% drop rate. I just can't imagine any 40 year old making it thru Marine boot back in the day, let alone ITR or Recon Indoc or BRC (a now old U.S. Recon Marine vet and recently retired Aerospace Engineer with a large American defense contractor's Missile Systems company).

This is awesome! This guy sounds just like me. I have regrets about the Military and Marshall. I got recruited out of H.S to play Football and Baseball at Marshall. I didn’t keep my grades up in H.S so I couldn’t get cleared through the NCAA Clearinghouse and then the Military didn’t work out, but these are my two biggest regrets of my life!

Sure buddy, that's why the Italians in Afghanistan was the primary force under the US jsoc (cia) and Italian Secret service command, with an Elìte ghosted tier 1 team called "Task Force 45", with the codename "Condor-A" where their reserve was the SAS with the codename "Condor-B". Cause they're like you national guardsman. You know s*it my dude.

It's not complicated. If you wear a tan beret and wear the scroll 75th you are part of the elite fighting force. You wear the tab that says ranger you went to an elite leadership course.

I completely forgot about the delicate issue of sleeping around in the military. Everyone is in their late teens or early-to-mid twenties so hormones are raging. Most people were in excellent physical shape from all the PT. Everyone's drinking heavily off duty. E-3s or E-4s hook up and it's no big deal. Two years later someone's promoted and it might become a complicated issue and it might follow someone to a new unit. I do not miss those days.

Appreciate it my childhood was very rough I’m 18 currently homeless been through a lot of trauma lost my dad my mom and my sister and was pretty much borderline Forster care and I was abused financially didn’t get raised right at all kinda raised my self and had mentors signed a option 40 contract 68 whiskey for the best option for my success good to know it’s good reliable people in the regiment and maintaining a standard is amazing I’m so greatfull for this opportunity can’t wait to earn my spot at the table 💪🏾💪🏾

Some do some don’t. They can make fake weights. Water bags, carrying other people, and books. But weights are the best way to gain muscle. Body weight is ok if that’s all you have

Im 58 years old, retired Air Force and feel the last generation of parents failed the eligible recruits by lowering standards and by accepting mediocrity. It poisoned this generation. Why would they give up their "entitled" status to conformity even with the lowering of standards and maximum age changes designed to increase recruiting numbers? I grew up in a time when we learned to tie shoes before kindergarten rather than resorting to velcro. We knew how to read a tape measure and tell time on an analog clock. We signed paychecks in cursive. We knew what spackling was by 8. We had pick up games and didn't rely on parents to drive us to practice...we ran there. We laundered our uniforms at the end of the season and wore the same one the following season. We didn't go to veterans organizations every year soliciting money for new ones. Not everyone received a trophy and we kept score! We knew how to give change back when someone gave us a few cents over. We played outside and drank from hoses. We actually developed social skills through personal interaction rather than hiding behind social media walls. We earned enough money to buy a beater car and we .were proud to have it. We weren't handed a new car when we got our permits. We knew what patriotism was at an early age and many of us joined for that reason alone. There is a reason why less than 1% serve because they are made of the character to be combatants. Let's stop dropping the bar and get back to grass roots military! We have only ourselves to blame for this predictable outcome! What did we expect was going to happen with generational coddling?
