I’ve been doing mine as a slow burn type of reveal by dropping small one liners as hints and one on one conversations and moments that allude to it. Super excited to give another drop in my next session right at the start of the session

I always think back to the goblins as they were portrayed in Discworld. Terry's portrayal of them pretty much cemented them in my mind as a loveable, tiny race just trying to get by in a world of Biggos.

I appreciate the message at the end. I spoke with my spouse about it because they're trans and the whole thing has been really stressful for them, but I said that we need to survive long enough to see the people who voted for him regret it. We have to live to regret it, so I hope they all do. I think about the people I work with who are proud of how things turned out, and I hope they see the friends they lose, I hope they see how people alienate them, and I hope they live to regret the votes they cast. They offered unwavering support to the people who want the person I care about most in this world dead, and for that I have no forgiveness. When their hateful politicians cast them aside in favor of profit, I won't be there to help them, and I hope it stings.

I realize this video is a year old, but I was spiraling into a dark place today on my way home today, and decided to disassociate into some D&D nonsense. This video came up in my recommendeds, and I love Jester so I'm like, sure why not. And now I'm sobbing. Because what you said at the wrap up at the end is exactly what I needed to hear in this moment. So thank you very much for this. 🫶

The way I like to think about it is that intelligence is not about always knowing the right answer, it's about always asking the right question. Intelligence is not some innate ability that someone is born with, it's the byproduct of curiosity.

If people aren't the best at RP and just want a mechanical way to be a crouching moron act silly and seemingly not do much but not be a burden to the party then show off as a powerful when needed play bard or divine soul sorcerer I feel as they are charisma based they can use performance and Deception etc and also be a support while still being powerful without needing to be powerful all the time to serve their purpose

Fun Fact, the Wizard of OZ thing? that's a movie decision as they had a lack of faith for the audience at the time accepting it being a fantasy setting, the books are just a fantasy setting, no kansas in sight! At least that's what I've heard I could totally be off base here!

I like to make custom magic the gathering cards in my free time, I made a few cards based on the mighty nein. When i did yasha, the flavor text i added was "show me why you're the fucking champion..." It is such an amazing quote that perpetuates throughout the rest of her story. From that moment onward, yasha showed why SHE was a fucking champion.

I remember playing a "crouching moron, hidden badass" character. Basically a bumbling buffoon octopus man who is often compared to Octodad, riiiight up until he rips a dragon's head off or hurls that arc's boss into the ocean.

When I play D&D 5e (which I only ever play if there litterally is n0thing else offered because I hate 5e), I focus my play style on the character's background profession, not the character class. I once had a Guild Crafter jeweler Halfling Barbarian. Very meak and polite to the point of sniffling succophant and obsessed with rules and laws. But when he looses his temper, he foams at his mouth, blood vesels bulge and he kills everything in sight.
@Aurora20972 күн бұрын
Problem of D&d is the players. They don't care too much about narration or good stories, just exaggerated overpowered characters, hoarding powerful items and treasures, silly action. Just boring...

I'm playing a character like this in my party. She is our party's fighter, and the most straightforward in the party. Her tether, however, is our somewhat innocent kobold wizard. As much as she likes to fight, she will not put him in direct danger. She feels she has something to prove, because her mother was a well renowned wizard. She doesn't have any magical talent herself, and she doesn't feel like she is living up to expectations.

It reminds me a bit of TotalBiscuit. He was diagnosed with colon cancer and for too long thought that it was a temporary condition and didn't get checked, only to then find out what it actually was. I remember in the video where he explained what had been going on, he encouraged everyone to go to the doctor the moment something seems wrong, no matter what. Having the strength to face such a terrifying prospect as our own mortality and rather than shutting down and turning inward, you try your hardest to let other people learn from your mistakes, from your condition, from the process of getting better.. I hope I never have to find out if I have that strength or not.

Usually i pick a part of my personality and turn it up to eleven when i make a new character, some examples of this are: Braddley Dough, the half orc fighter from a family of great bakers. With his greatest flaw being racism and stupidity. He treats mages and any arcane user as a different and inferior species. Percival Tatsu-Tengu Nephele Richarles Mc.Condor, the Air Genasi Bard with greek ancestry and a nudist tendency. He's also a rich noble from a toxic family household, his mom was the only one that supported his artistic talents, after she passed away, he fell for all the lustfull things in life: Women, men, alcohol, parties, etc... These two are my favorites, but there's a thousand ways for you to try and do the same

To be fair, dungeons and daddies is the worst d&d podcast advertised as actual play in my opinion. Simply put, I genuinely disliked the dishonesty in how it's advertised compared to how the game "should" be played when it comes to overuse of gm fiat and homebrew on their part, but that's just my take. It is what it is and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Each podcast is for a slightly different audience and people have different levels of seriousness when it comes to the rules and different styles of gameplay between players and gms. At the end of the day we're all nerds that enjoy different flavors of being a nerd. You have a lot of good analysis and takes, and I agree for the most part. As an aside, the glass cannon podcast runs pathfinder, but has a great dynamic with a somewhat strong adherence to the rules of that system. Everybody makes mistakes or forgets because the rule books for both d&d and pathfinder are massive tomes. I suppose our individual flavors of what we enjoy and prefer in a podcast on an individual basis are based on the group dynamic of the podcast rather than the specific systems or adherence to rules, etc. Either way, thanks for the insight and you've got a like and sub from me 👍

I can add my 2 cents from my experience. Me and my gf, we run 2 timelines in our DnD world(sometimes our common friends join for an adventure), where I'm the DM in the timeline 7 years prior to the current timeline, and she is the DM in current timeline. So, I've designed 3 romantic options for her most favorite PC and some time later I realised they are all what you may call morally grey. I pondered about it and understood that grey morality is not something you add to your characters, it's something that develops naturally when you get to know the character better. We all have evil and good inside us, so even a "lawful good" character has their flaws, without them characters wouldn't feel real

If you truly feel this way about how your loved ones see you, you need to speak to a professional. These thoughts aren't normal; they're only normal for people with certain mental illnesses.

Dude, it's a game. You're conflating the players with the characters. They're professional actors; if it wasn't played out convincingly, they'd be in the wrong career.

Lawful characters are basically those who follow the laws of the land, religion, or culture. Honestly I don't mind lawful characters, I just want them to have a bit more empathy or background so it can be that they not just a stick in mud.

Yasha was my favorite character throughout campaign 2 and this is a big reason why. Campaign 2 was the start of the characters growing as people and not holding onto their old ways as much. Ashley Johnson (despite being gone for long periods of time) showing (in my personal opinion) the most growth out of all

Elementary is so much better. The thing about being a genius in media is that Hollywood thinks that only neurodivergent people can be geniuses, and that the main thing about them is that they don't have social skills. What happened to the rambling about a specific topic you are obsessed about to people you love?

Has Iroh committed war crimes? Ignoring that the AtLA world doesn’t have an international community and as such doesn’t have laws of war, even by our standards has Iroh committed war crimes? He was a Military Commander who besieged an enemy city. We don’t ever even imply that he intentionally killed civilians or non-combatants. Being a Military Commander and fighting (even if the country is the aggressor) does not inherently make that Commander a war criminal. Probably the only actual crime Iroh committed was insubordination against Zaoh during the North Pole (depending if you go with the concept of a lawful order).

Intellect is measured by what you know compared to others and what you can teach them. This doesn’t mean you have every superpower like eidetic memory and somehow is able to predict the future. No, it just simply means that you know a thing or two more than others, and is able to see the bigger picture. One of the quotes from a fictional character states that being a Genius Strategiest sometimes doesn’t mean you can come up with crazy innovative manuvers that haven’t ever been thought of before, but knowing when your enemy makes a mistake. And how to capitalize on it, or lure to make a mistake. Because at the end of the day, the battle of information is knowing your enemy and yourself.

Let me play devils advotate here. After Star Wars 7 we were left with the question "Where is Luke and why hasn't he done anything to stop the First Order from doing all that bad stuff, like nuking the republic core worlds?" The answer that Rian Johnson came up with was "An older Luke (almost) did something bad on an impulsive decision, this lead to a catastrophe which undid most of what he had created for the last few decades. His tired mind concluded that he was unfit to do any good in the galaxy anymore." I would call the execution of that idea rushed and lacking as a result. But it effectively answer the original question and if well executed would be an interesting direction to take the character.
