Going to Japan is very exciting! I went last September, I can't believe it's almost been a year. I will say, the reason everyone goes in spring and not summer (other than the obvious cherry blossoms!) is the ~heat~. Take care, and drink lots of water!!!! The humidity is no joke there, Japanese summers are brutal!

After a bad con I also occasionally feel like I should go back to doing more fan art, especially when seeing customers walking around with posters/prints of popular IPs. I think you have such a good unique thing going, though! No one can mimic what you do, keep at it and it will get better

As a Monster High fan, I would /love/ to see more art of them in your style, but I do think striking a balance is the way to go. Especially since your original work is badass and unique! I really commend your openness about sharing shows that don't perform as well and keeping such a positive attitude. It can be tough when there's such a personal connection to the art you make. Loved seeing your haul, and I'm excited to see your Japan vlog!

I did a market in Duncan at the fairgrounds - it was supposed to be a huge market. I made $26. It cost me almost $300 just to get there plus the cost of the booth. I left, very disheartened, and didn't even bother doing day 2, since my time was better spent at home, making more art. I wasn't the only one, absolutely everyone was disappointed with their sales, some didn't make a single cent.

Ohshit, GaiaOnline. I miss the days when that site was busier. Too bad to hear about AR not going well for sales. Honestly I've heard a lot of bad things about AR, i dont even attend, let alone selling there. That pet portrait at 16 mins is so dang cute.

I totally understand the sentiment about not doing well at anime cons, I really struggle at comic con events and have found they are totally not worth it for me at this time. I graduated back in May as a studio art major with my heart in digital art, trying to figure out my life while not knowing anywhere about where to go, aside from the desire to create that I've always had as an artist. This is really helpful and eased my anxieties about the process of finding work and making it as an illustrator. Here's to hoping I make it work!

I say don't berate yourself for having those feelings and voicing them. At a really slow art show I got a chance to talk to some of the other artists and kept hearing the phrase "I'm just here to have a good time" and thought I was the only one with a negative outlook, which made me feel that much worse. When I was asked how I felt about the show I decided to be honest and told them "I don't like paying people to waste my time," and the other artist laughed, agreed, and we ended up talking much more. Expressing a negative opinion or emotion isn't always complaining, and regardless of label it's an okay thought to have! It's better to release it than ruminate over how you're not having a good time and on top of that you're a bad person for feeling that way. Observe the thought and if it isn't serving you in any way, take a deep breathe and imagine the thought as a cloud that you blow away.

Hi Tuna absolutely loveee all you videos! I've seen some people attatch velcro strips to the top of the sleeve inserts to stop the stickers from falling out while travelling, that might help you!
