Did you do all this in a day?
@remishimazu

I didn't and I wouldn't recommend trying to squeeze it all in one day. Most of the places are located in the Minato Mirai area though so you can visit a good chunk of them in one day. I hope this helps!

This was a great video! Like you said, some of these seem like no-brainers, but for Japan they’re especially helpful. For the WiFi, we did go the pocket WiFi route when we visited Japan a few months back and it worked out great. We got 2 pocket WiFi for our family of 4, so the two teenagers could do their own thing at times. For the train maps app, that was so important as we never were confused about which train to take. I also made sure the app I used drilled down to see all the stops along the way, as I can’t tell you how many times my wife and kids asked ‘how many more stops?’ and I was able to confidently give them an exact answer. For the hotels, I purposely picked ones close to the station like you said. This helps when you have all your luggage with you. For example, when traveling from Kyoto to Mt. Fuji area, I decided to break it up by booking 1 night half way in Mishima. I can’t tell you how happy my wife and kids were when, after carrying all our luggage, I showed them our hotel was attached to the train station. I also tried to make sure a couple of the places we stayed at had laundry facilities. This way, we were all able to just bring carryons for the 2 week trip, and were able to wash clothes a couple times. Finally, for the restaurants, I agree with you. I feel like all the food in Japan is good quality and so it’s not worth it to wait in some super long line that will eat up your day. We never made a reservation anywhere, and just found local places that were nearby the activities we were doing. We still ate some of the most amazing food just by stumbling on places along the way.

I was nodding the entire time I read your note. It's so relatable! It sounds like you were pretty buttoned up and did a great job prepping for your Japan trip! I hope you and the family had a wonderful time. Thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice note. I enjoyed reading it :)

Yes, it was a really memorable trip. And I think, like you said, having some of those basics buttoned up actually freed us up to just take our time each day to roam around and explore, without feeling rushed or stressed.

Hi Remi, I completely agree with you about not needing to choose all the places to eat ahead of time. When we visited Japan last year, we ate so well, except maybe at a family restaurant. We would just walk up to a restaurant, check the menu, avoided places with a big lineup, and the food and service turned out amazing.

All valuable tips. Let me add 1 very important recommendation. Expect to walk a LOT and climb MANY steps so prepare yourself physically a couple of months in advance and buy comfy shoes.

My top tip which I've NEVER heard anybody put near the top of their packing list recommendations for travellers to Japan: BRING YOUR OWN TAMPONS. Even if you don't think you'll be due during your time abroad, take a pack with you. Secondly, bring a wad of coffee filters and a holder cup to make your own drip coffee; the freeze dried stuff you get in hotels and the little clip-on-cup drip bags you can buy in supermarkets in Japan are undrinkable muck. Serious coffee shops obviously offer some wonderful drinks but I'm talking about the instant stuff. If you love coffee in your hotel in the morning etc, please take my advice or drink dirty dishwater instead. You can buy beans all over the place in Japan and have them ground for you and get the bag resealed properly-- or you can decant your own ground beans from home into a clean jar. But the tampons are non-negotiable (unless you are happy to travel wearing pads).

Rename this video to "Beginner's guide to travelling to another country". I spent 16 mins watching your video and most of these are NOT japan specific. I genuinely came here to watch your video and ended up disappointed. Never once u spoke about suica card or what network provider to get for sim/esim. "Be sure to have a valid passport". Thank you, captain obvious. This video could literally be an email.

She didn’t recommend using a phone service with international data despite its apparent ease of calling and roaming internationally. Because from her experience, her phone’s network speed in Japan was annoyingly slow. Depending on the number of days you would stay in Japan, you could buy a 5G docomo or SoftBank SIM card with variable data transfer limit plans, and insert it to your phone SIM card slot once arriving at Japan. To activate the data service, you have to turn on data roaming your phone mobile data settings.

Hi Remi!!!!! I want to thank you for all the information you have organized and all the videos and ideas for a trip to Japan! My husband and I decided a week ago that we want to spend from mid sep until Halloween in Japan and got tickets! We found your channel last night and subscribed and binged like 3 hours of your videos hahaha. I loved the Pokémon you got :3 . We are both foodies and love that you show so much about the food there. Also your dad is the sweetest 💗 😊 !! We'll be coming back to your channel and posts because this will be our first time there and we need all the information we can get. He's studying Japanese so I'm glad he can read and translate many things 😅. Sending you a big hug from Canada! ❤

We're both passionate about japan and decided to save all our vacations this year to just so one long trip so we can enjoy it instead of rushing lol. I'm glad we picked a good season ! I love Halloween 🎃 so I was excited to spend the holiday there. Again, thanks for all the information, it's really so helpful! I'm looking forward to buying the stamps journal 😄

Your blogs are very pleasant to watch. I appreciate you tagging the cafes you go to. A lot of them look so tempting, thanks again. One thing that always gets me. When you tell the locals in the Tokyo area, that they live in the biggest city in the world. The reaction is always the same: えええ、本当?!?! How they viewed New York being bigger then Tokyo lol.
