Here are my notes: hawks/buteos field marks (All adults have a dark trailing bar along their outer feathers) Red-Shouldered: 5 wing tips, translucent crescent by wing tips, also cool pattern of black and white lines which can be trippy. Broad-winged: 4 wing tips, black and white tail feathers, migrate in kettles. Rough-legged: Splotchy dark colors (dark squares under wings), 5 wing tips, can be black and white with a bib (adult male), usually the species with dark morphs, cold weather birds. Red-tailed: Light squares panels on outer wings, 5 wing tips, red tail, dark belly band, dark petagial bars. (rare bc western) Swainson's: Long lanky wing with two-tone appearance, seems to lack other field marks entirely and has bright creamy tail feathers with minor brown streaks.

Thanks for all of the hard work, leading the hawk watches and making daily videos. That’s amazing and it 0:03 really helped me in identifying birds. My highlights for 2024 were at the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory high up on Hawk Hill above the SF Golden Gate Bridge. I gained a lot of respect for the amount of work and dedication it takes to make these programs so popular and important. I made it up there (4) times and even though I only saw a fractions of the raptors that the spotters reported, I was still able to get decent photos of a broad-winged hawk, Merlins, Dark-morph RTH, Sharpies, Coopers, Harriers, Kites.
