I always thought the original Jupiter 2 was the coolest spaceship. Loved watching this show when I was a kid in the 60s.

This show could have been another Star Trek, it had so much potential the first few episodes but then turned into a silly kiddy show thanks to Jonathan Harris and his dopey Dr. Smith.

@@GeorgeStar The show was. lumbered in the family hour timeslot. 7.30 pm for its entire run.. Meaning it had to appeal to children and not scare them too much. Trek never had that issue and restrictions on it.

What episode is this?

I would love to have seen the Jupiter 2 enter the Enterprise docking bay! It would've been so wonderfully reminiscent of the Season1 episode where they entered the big ship containing those blob-like aliens that communicate electrostatically.

It's too bad Syfy Channel never did a crossover of these two shows in real-life. It would've been perfectly feasible with regard to in-story chronology. According to the b/w pilot, the Jupiter 2 lifted off for Alpha Centauri in October 1997. According to Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, Luna was blown out of Earth orbit, two years later. The result of nuclear waste dumps on the Moon building up too much electromagnetic discharge (or something like that). And in the Season 3 LIS episode, "Time Merchant," it was revealed that without Dr. Smith's additional weight, throwing the Jupiter 2 off course, the flying saucer would've collided with an uncharted asteroid four months after take-off. Killing all the cryo-nauts aboard! Would that "asteroid" have been Luna?

I remember how excited I was when the series started as a kid, but I couldn't care less when it ended after becoming a snarky show about some effeminate guy and a robot.

These guys, and the lop sided pumpkin head with his frog friend in the black cloaks were pretty scary. Oh, and Angus. Angus was something else.

I always loved the "Crush, Kill Destroy" episode. Something about superhero robot people, I forget, but it was all great fun as a kid in the '70s.

I loved everything about the Jupiter II -- the exterior and interior and all the action scenes lifting off or crash landing. I especially loved the scene in season one with Major West in the freeze tube while we viewed planet imagery through the J2 front window as ship was about to crash - the great music made it all the more exciting -- great childhood memory and I love seeing it here on the KZbin 😀
