I can't agree with this presenter at all. I've owned this tool for almost thirty years, and I honestly can't say a bad thing about it. I occasionally use other builders nailers, and I'm always consistently disappointed with them in some way.
@theguyinmaine8 күн бұрын
Why do you frame walls, and then sheath them. So much work and not so accurate. Build them on the floor, square them and sheath them then stand them up, so much easier. If you can't lift them, they make wall standers that work great.
@theguyinmaine8 күн бұрын
I'm here because I bought a new B model and it will not shoot a nail, OK, it shot 1. Getting pissed. 2 3/8 ring shank 21 degree plastic collated. Full round head. I put a 3 1/4 framing nail in my arm with the A model. Man was it stuck, pulled it out and it went through a vein, blood was shooting everywhere.
@theguyinmaine8 күн бұрын
The first Porter Cable was an "A " model. I had one and it was great. I bought a big box of 2 3/8 spiral sheathing nails. Those things are a death wish. You have no idea where they are going, 1 out of 10 would make it in the wood. The rest were going air born at full speed, who knows where. I thought it was the gun, then finally figured it out. it was the nails. DO NOT BUY them.
@Bullfrogg2017Ай бұрын
Good explanation of your experience and thoughts! You don't appear to have tried different nails though. I have a 1995 Bostitch N80SB and it won't work correctly with nails that are collated with that glue drizzle. I have to use genuine Bostitch nails that are tacked together with the wire.

I have used a bostich framing gun and it worked great it was the exact same model. On a apartment job i had to nail 2x10 deck cantalevers together with a insane nail spec of 2 nails every 6 inches. I shot over 10,000 nails throught it that day and never jamed once. Maybe that one is a lemon

Are you concerned about the base rocks puncturing holes in the tank when it is full?
@hisnaturefarm3 ай бұрын
No actually we used 3/4-1" gravel which we kept flat and level. We had to make sure there were no rocks sticking up. Additionally, the tank is very thick. The tank must be placed on rock or very compacted soil, otherwise is could lean. The tank full will weigh 44,000 pounds.

Spacing standards depending in requirements could be as robust as 12” centers, 16, 19.3-(96” layouts), 24, for most vertical members…the same for rafter and trusses but add 32, 48, and even 96” with intermittent sub framing…

16 is a factor of 48. But I'm pretty sure 16" spacing, 2x4s and 2x12s all existed before plywood and it definitely existed before aluminum siding and drywall. So the reason plywood and drywall are 4 ft wide/ 48 inches, is because the joists are 16" on center and 48x96" is a reasonable size when you factor labor cost and the size of a cargo van or pickup truck. All the number sync up nicely but overall the building strenght vs time to build were the leading factors. Im also confident that 2x4 is a good size to fit in the average mans hand. 2x3 isn't very strong. 2x6 heavier and would slow down construction. Wooden structures existed for thousands of years before SAE was invented. The general proportions of spacing and thickness of wood hasn't changed much in thousands of years. So yeah, doing it the same way every time means a carpenter doesn't need a degree in structural engineering. They just need to know building codes and they dont need to provide blueprints to the siding or the drywall crew. Standardization is a way to save time.

It's strength nothing to do with siding
@hisnaturefarm3 ай бұрын
Not really, all the strength is from the siding/osb/plywood, especially near the corners for sheer strength. You could frame 24 oc. but there is not much area for the plywood to attach. This is why there are strict nailing patters for osb/plywood, 8" on edge and 12" in the field.
@JamesWilson-fr8kb3 ай бұрын
Vinyl siding is strong 💪 go get your money back from your trade school and the osb and plywood is called sheeting not siding and they work together with the studs for strength

My best framing nailers are air nailers by Makita, Dewalt, and Ryobi 18v 21 degrees. I only use 21-degree framing nailers because they are easy to find nails of all types.

Sure solar is worth it, but not with a low surge capacity, high frequency, transformerless inverter.
@quickquote15685 ай бұрын
The best LFP batteries for any application are DIY self built batteries. For only a few hundred dollars more than a 100 Amp hour 48 Volt battery, you can easily build a 304 Amp hour 48 Volt battery. That's 5.12kW vs 15.56kW. And that includes a BMS with active balance and low temperature sensing. DC disconnects, LCD metering and more.

Has anyone ever load tested these EG4 batteries for capacity using a real lab grade, DC load tester?
@solarcharging97436 ай бұрын
Nice batteries but I would not have purchased the inverter that you chose. High frequency, output transformerless inverters do not offer a high enough surge capacity for my home's needs. With only a 2 x surge capacity, this relatively low surge inverter would never be able to start my well pump or power tools while running my other resistive household loads. For my offgrid home, I chose a heavy duty, high peak power capacity, low frequency, transformer based inverter charger instead of the lighter weight unit. In addition, because my inverter uses an iron core, copper wound output transformer, it provide galvanic isolation which makes for safer power production.

The only negative thing I can say about the nailer is it's a little on the heavy side, but I don't mind when I'm dropping it in the dirt and not worrying about it breaking.

I wouldn't recommend buying these batteries. When they go into protection mode it is a nightmare to get them to comeback online. I have 6 of them. We've have multiple batteries go into protection mode. We still have one that will not come back online. We've bought the 399$ charger that's a scam. Eg4 has been tough to get any help on troubleshooting the battery. The battery has no reset button like the LL batteries. Complete nightmare. #300lbwallbrick!

Bostitch makes good roofing nailers, at least the old models were great. I got a coil framing nailer and out of the box, even with the adjustment knob set all the way down, it will not sink the nails consistently. My Metabo A5 coil nailer will damn near send nails through the wood with the exact same air pressure, hose and fitting set-up.

Ground mount those panel. Stay off the roof. 😊 Easier to troubleshoot, upgrade, clean (for those snow/ice people), no holes in the metal roof. Also panels on roof need an additional rapid shutdown in most states, not sure if it applies in your area. That’s an additional cost for each panel as they each need a module. Plus some additional items to connect to the inverter to support the rapid shutdown.

Appreciate the advice, I did design it with a roof mount in mind. Not sure I can ground mount 40 panels.

Stagnant air starts to stink, that is something people forget and was a lesson taught long ago. Natural gas furnace is by far the best thing ever invented in this area of expertise. It is over 95% efficient and is the cheapest of them all while being the least costly to replace if needed to be. Relying on electricity in any amount is failure at the highest level, cause when it is off you literally are just sitting there waiting to die until it either turns back on or you are dead. Natural gas will flow for thousands more years without any worry, the boogy man under the bed isnt real.
