Great video. you are much more knowledgeable about the plants and animals of Glacier NP than the typical videographer who just shoots video without knowing what they are seeing in Glacier NP.

Wow!! I did this hike in 1988 at age 34. I have no video, just slides. What a huge difference in the size and reach of the Sperry glacier. It has receded at least a quarter of a mile in downhill reach, probably more. I've watched it from afar on a early basis with my twice annual visits to Hidden Lake over 35+years (my "fortress of solitude"). i'd often wander to the far ridge just to look down at Avalanche basin and take that look back toward Logan Pass that is soooo appealing. Thanks for the memories Thanks for the video

I did this hike back in 2006 and the hike from Adair to Grace Lake was a slog through waist-to-shoulder height brush (I'm 6'2") with the trail mostly invisible underfoot. Mainly huge thimbleberry, but it was Labor Day and the berries were over. A trim was definitely needed. I bushwhacked to the head of Grace Lake following a decommissioned trail that even had remnants of boardwalk. Now THAT was a tough bushwhack and at one point I sunk up to my knee in muck. That stunk. Literally. It was still a great trip. One night at Logging, two at Grace, another at Logging and then out. I've since done a day hike (May of this year) to Logging, ate lunch and then hiked out. Great spot with little traffic. I saw no one on either trip. Thanks for bringing back memories!

Thanks for the awesome video Jake & Kristen. I know what I’m doing next time I’m in Glacier, which should be June 2025. While I’ve done several hikes there in the Two Medicine area, I have yet to campout and do this hike and Dawson. Maybe I can talk my wife & daughter into a quick 11hr drive from NW OR in October for some camping and viewing western Larch & Shakers. Would love to see them on Lake McD & Single Shot Mtn foreground. Cheers & take care.

Crazy that you did this all in a day from the loop. That route up iceberg and back around from the book is a slog. We started at the chalet back down to the loop and we were smoked. Iceberg is unreal though, all worth it.

Spending some good trail time on Mount Brown this Summer, eh?! Pleasant video. Were you doing a Common Loon survey?
@hike7344 ай бұрын
I'll be up on Mt. Brown for some hawk watch stints in September and October. I was heading up to Snyder to hike as I'd not been up there since it burned. I actually had done a Harlequin Duck survey on Snyder (gosh that was a terrible bushwhacky business) and realized that it'd changed a ton!

Thank you, Jake. Great video, as usual. You don’t have to justify “re-hiking” a trail. Every time I return to GNP I re-hike several trails. I hiked to Iceberg Lake in June in the snow, which was great (I live in Louisiana). That was my third time. It is different every time; although I’ve seen at least one moose on each trip.
@hike7344 ай бұрын
For sure! I guess if I have a specific reason to re-hike it, I'll say it. :D Iceberg is a great trail and so good for big animals!
@Taskerofpuppets4 ай бұрын
That was really nice, Jake. Thanks for the footage. You do a ‘stellar’ job capturing all the different birds & waterfowl. So cool to see East Porcupine and Cleveland from that perspective. The waterfalls of St. Francis remind me of the waterfalls you can see along Gunsight Trail off in the distance coming off Citadel as you approach Mirror Lake. Inspiring back pack trip from Waterton Lakes NP.
@hike7344 ай бұрын
I notice plants and animals all of the time and love to share. My hope is that others notice all the insane variety as well! I agree with the waterfall. The walk up to Gunsight Pass gives you such great views of the waterfalls coming down the tortured layers that have been folded over.

We are thinking about doing this hike in early September. What was your mileage from Logan Pass to Granite Park Chalet and back (including Grinnell Glacier Overlook)? We thought about hiking down to The Loop and taking the shuttle, but I've seen negative reviews on that part of the hike so may want to do this as an out and back.
@Scottvidas4 ай бұрын
I wish the Park would open the trail sooner. Years ago trail crews would cut through the big snow drift at the end of the cliff section but now waits for more melting. I detest the Loop trail and had to use it this year again because Highline was still closed.
@toddwood51905 ай бұрын
Thanks for the memories. I did that hike but all the way to Many Glacier Campground in 2012. The Sun Road didn’t open until two days after I departed this year. But hiking to Iceberg Lake in the snow was awesome for this flatlander.
