Who then is it that tries to explain empty form. Why not decide to be and or not too be. it's unnecessarily complicated. Why not simply be.

You are not being, by being upset that he is trying to express himself through the wisdom that inspires him from others. Everything you are is inspired by someone and something else put that passion is put into you. His passion is pure. You can feel that. Please, see a man of his age, an elder trying to share love with you. Hear past the words and feel his intentions. He is learning just as we are, no one is perfect, but his heart is good and I am happy to listen to his kindness. That doesn't mean you have to. If you don't like it, you can always ask it as a question out of respect, or if you don't like it? You have the free will to move on. The way of the wise is to always ask a question, but never leave a statement if you truly want to learn. Yes, you asked a question, but you also left a statement in the middle. He may never respond. Always be mindful of how you ask questions and the wording you use with people who are coming from a place of sharing and love. That is something the world needs more of. Wait...is that not how hell is all broken loose? Hahahaha! Always leave your statement with every question! Especially in this new world. It's As he says....some parts are solid and some are barely there...it's all just a part of expression my dude.

Who tries to explain empty form? Nobody. Or maybe Peter. Why not simply be? Sometimes complicating things is entertaining... maybe even helpful or encouraging. Join us for zazen if you prefer wordless companionship :-)

Oh enough please. This is an old man expressing himself, and he's adorable. He is doing something lovely. He's trying to share with you. Please find the love in that. It's something beautiful you are seeing.

When we consider the idea of a "spiritual privilege" we get into issues, just like any kind of unwarranted privilege. Was the new-born Dalai Lama "privileged" in any way?? Search out the concept of "gimp" please, a human being used to maintain another human being "spiritually pure." As usual, we should think that "human" is a purpose in itself.

There's a joke going round that sounds like this. When young, boys play with toy Ferraris and girls play with toy Barbies. As they grow older, the situation changes to the opposite. :)

Zazen is like working out. When you start out, your body is in pain, your mind says "why bother". Then you become accustomed, notice progress (what a conflictive word in Zen), and finally it becomes "a part of you" :)

Genesis 3:22:Now the Lord God said, "Behold man has become like one of us, having the ability of knowing good and evil, and now, lest he stretch forth his hand and take also from the Tree of Life and eat and live forever." Explain that.

I had the good fortune of meeting Paul briefly in Japan in the early '70s while I was apprenticing with Bob Murase, a Japanese-American sansei who had been in Japan for 10 years practicing landscape architecture in connection with Kyodai University. Through Bob, I met Paul who referred me to a Daitokuji subtemple for Zen meditation practice. Although Paul may not remember me, his referral was a life-changer for me, for I ended up living in Japan for some 2 1/2 years, practicing Zen meditation and learning Japanese "MA" design perception. (Later, I was able to help Bob Murase re-establish a landscape architectural career in Oregon that evolved into an internationally recognized design career, though passing away in 2005). It has been amazing to follow Paul's career since he learned the Japanese wood-joinery craft in Japan that evolved into such beautiful structures we now have in California. I marvel at these human and design interconnections, undergirded by the Tao! Thank you Paul for your wonderful direction and quiet influence on many of us!
