The GPU is missing its heat spreader. I think someone’s been inside the console before. The warranty sticker was intact but there were also missing screws.

It's a shame that my first PS3 was not backwards compatible with PS2 games. It died on my a few years after I got mine. It was still a fat model but with 2 USB ports and the front panel didn't open and an 80GB hard drive. One thing about fat model PS3 consoles is that they also had a tendency to overheat.

Sadly its a matter of time before the GPU breaks in this ps3 becouse of the defect in the first type of GPU that was used in most Phat models,unless its GPU gets replaced with newer one from slim . latest phat ,slim and superslim have newer GPUs that dont have a defect ,

Can someone tell me why after dusting the inside of this system I still get a frozen screen that forces me to hold the power button for a shutdown and when I don’t get a frozen screen and I start up a downloaded game it shuts down to the point of unplugging to receive the five volts required for sleep mode and when the game does play after 2 minutes I am given green and white vertical lines shaped to be lateral standing rectangles
@Avrebbe11 күн бұрын
Which also freezes the gameplay. There is no way it’s overheating and the hard drive has its games so what is wrong with this PlayStation 3 slim edition?

Unfortunately, this console most likely has a bad GPU and the only fix is a replacement GPU. Also, the bolt mod kit you bought from Ebay will not help in anyway shape or form

Listen I’m sure you’re tired of hearing the “it’s not a permanent fix” or “it’ll cause permanent damage” but I have to give you credit where credit is due. Fixing electronics of any kind isn’t easy and it takes a bit of learning. And so what if it damages it? There’s thousands of these junk 360s lying around and I doubt all the people commenting about how the fix ain’t perfect have actually attempted to fix one the “right way” since the equipment required to replace the gpu is expensive as hell. So props to you for actually trying a fix, and hey… the chances of the fix sticking are never 0!

As a 32year experienced electronic technician, i truly have yo say what a relief it is to see someone.take the same care in checking voltages, and electrical safety seriously. People.dont realize when youpower that stuff on and then immediately takenit apart, those electrolitics can hold a charge for qyite awhile and atill be very hazardous. I love watching your electronic restorations, i javw somw of the same tendancies you do ive noticed!

This is not a permanent fix. All youre doing is kicking the can down the road. Youre arguably making it even worse by bolt modding it and warping the board. The real issue lies with the faulty gpu. The only PROPER fix for these consoles is to use an actual bga rework station and REPLACE the gpu. Im not talking about some harbor freight heatgun and plumbers flux. Im talking about an actual professional who takes pride in his/her work and uses the proper equipment.
@techrestoread23 күн бұрын
Thank you. I'm not a professional who has all the equipment at home, but a guy who is learning and enjoying trying to get things working again, but your feedback is welcome, and thank you for watching it's much appreciated 😃

What was the "repair" exactly? What was the problem and why are we replacing the caps? Why are we changing the cooler clamps? And why are we not removing the protective film on the thermal pads?
@techrestoread24 күн бұрын
I worked on this Xbox 360 before l did the heat gun method worked for a short while, and l replaced the cap because they have popped and needed replacing. Thank you for watching it's much appreciated 😃
@vdochev23 күн бұрын
@@techrestoread That's not a fix. You need to replace the GPU with a non-defective one. And also revert this "bolt mod" if you want your console to stay alive.
@matt.10824 күн бұрын
The underfill is the problem on the GPU. Not the heat sink. Not the solder balls. The physical GPU needs to be replaced.
@colesyaj_tech24 күн бұрын
Well another crack at it I see. This is a good way to convert a RROD 360 to a temporarily working 360 at the cost of permanently making it actually unrepairable. The first thing you did by putting back the XClamps was good, but this is gonna continue bending the board, which will make it curve at the GPU, and then you can't replace this bad GPU with a fixed one that won't RROD, since the actual problem is inside the GPU, and you need to replace it with one that is known as fixed. Worst of all that bending can actually cause internal board damage so sadly it's pretty much done for. At least it's just a basic Metro Xenon, it's not rare or anything
