I learned photography with a Konica/40mm, so the 43 would be instinctively preferred for me. But having used the Q2 for a couple of years, the constraints have pushed me to learn and adapt and enjoy. Q3 prices are beyond my budget too. I think a lot of Leica aspiring folks will go toward the D-Lux 8.

Nice video, I agree with your points. My first light was COB almost the same as yours (different brand name for this part of Europe) but as you mentioned, when you want lit someone against the window in sunny day, it’s impossible to do it and key light is more fill light. Now I’m considering to take VL150 (but it’s almost 4 years after release), in theory it’s 2-3 times more powerful than SL60. But on the other hand there are in the same price range bicolor and RGB cob lights from Amaran and Smallrig but I guess even they are stronger in wattage, light output for daylight colour will be lower.
@Christian_Kurz8 күн бұрын
You are probably right if it comes to output for daylight. If you don´t need rgb, you definitely get more output for the money if you go with a daylight only device.

I agree with the vlogger about a SMALL palm-sized camera, but I do NOT agree that a camera costing $2000 is a good idea for a beginner :)!!! Consider instead the amazing SONY RX100 i, ii, or iii that cost around $500, have zoom lenses, a built in flash, cheap batteries, and a wonderful pop-up view finder, as well as a pop out back screen, and most important-beautiful images. Even better, buy the latest IPHONE or Samsung Galaxy cell and learn to use the high quality cameras in these phones. If you decide not to be a photographer you still have a great cell telephone to share pics with your friends. You can learn to shoot as a photographer with a good cell camera just like on a regular camera, but it's much easier-much more user friendly. The photos will not be as detailed/sharp/rich when blown up a bit, but so what? You are learning and deciding if you want to be a photographer :)! If you buy a cell, review the many you tube videos about how to shoot with the cell camera, or if you use a new iphone, go to the free classes at the Apple Store in your neighborhood. No matter what, never buy as a beginner, a detachable lens camera, you simply won't use it enough to warrant the cost, and they are too darn big to travel with or take to local events. Again, start with cells or palm sized cameras (under $600) then move up from there to APSC or full frame interchangeable lens cameras. Lastly, always consider used cameras sold by private parties who decide NOT to be photographers! You get great depreciation on such sites as Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, Offer-up. Amazon, EBAY are good as well, but you pay tax.

I own the Leica Q3 28mm. There is no better or worse, they are the same cameras, the same high-quality workmanship and the same design. You just have to ask yourself whether you want 28mm with a usable 35/50 crop or 43mm with a usable 60/75 crop... Both have different needs and areas of application.
@jeffchastain297723 күн бұрын
Yes. I have always been a wide angle photographer. I have a 14mm lens for my full frame Nikon d800 that is insanely wide. When my father gave me his Nikon F2 Photomic back in the 70s and asked me what new lens he could buy me for Christmas I asked for a 9mm fisheye. He declined to buy that particularly expensive and somewhat useless lens, but instead bought me a 20mm Nikkor instead, which I loved and still use on my d800 today. I can't get enough information in my photos, so it's the 28 for me. But that is me. And I would find uses for the 43mm Leica as well, would would not use it as much as I use my Q3 with the 28 Summilux which is a stunner of a lens.

@@year-ago It’s hard to see on a Video display of an internet broadcast, but I assure you that no camera made by Panasonic ever made the kind of output that either of these Leicas produce. @@Christian_Kurz Potentially, but I feel the M system has a very specific audience, which would not stop buying M cameras. If you buy a M camera nowadays is because you either want to try a different experience of shooting or want to have that nostalgic feeling from old times. Not to speak of the lenses. I got my Canon RF 85/2.0 for 340 Swiss Francs (new: 540 Francs): It is stabilized and goes until 1:2. And it produces outstanding images. For the Apo-Summicron-SL 1.2/90mm ASPH I would have to pay 5300 Swiss Francs. For this money I can purchase a whole Canon equipment consisting of the body and three lenses!!! Leica is a myth. SL lenses are outsourced to Japan to make 4. AF is a joke for the price 5. SL optics is not unique compared to lenses from Canon/ Sony/ Nikon. For a camera at that price - one can always get something better with Canon Nikon Sony.
