Yes, we were practicing Aikido, with an Uke that resists being thrown. And really trying to dial down on the movements of Irimi-nage. Going through the movements slowly and trying to generate the power of the technique.

You're welcome. I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying your journey with Aikido. You ask a very good question, and training at Honbu Dojo, having a different instructor every night, I experienced a completely different Aikido every day. So yes, there will be a difference between Yoshinkan and Aikikai. But it's more teaching style and philosophy than actual technique. I like to think about it this way...a hamburger, is a hamburger, but there's a difference between McDonalds and Burger King. The magic happens when you as the Aikidoka like one style over the other. (do you prefer McDonalds over Burger King?)

So there's a reality TV thing on KZbin called ultimate self-defense championship which involves lots of black belts and MMA title holders in this self-defense championship guys who win titles still get stabbed to death when confronting a singular opponent with a knife the same guys also take a lot of beating with training...

If you HAVE to just choose one for JUST street fighting, I'd go with combat Sambo because it gives you a bit of everything and like wrestling actually gives you the grit and pressure of a real fight.
