Hands down the best bait for trophy catfish is what they are eating naturally in the water they are in shad bluegill crayfish worms a good unnatural bait is shrimp or liver work for nice size fish. Commercial or home made baits can catch big fish like blues channels bullheads but you will never catch a trophy definitely not a flathead on that stuff you need live bait blue crabs eeals shad/ bluegill or at least fresh bait. If you put your bait and a chunk of shad next to each other they will hit the shad 95% of the time. Trophy fish don't get that big from eating cool aid dogfood and bandaids they get that big from oily shad. Catfish are opportunist they eat almost anything but the bigger they get the more weary and picky they get.

Great comment. The water needs to be a little warmer for this too so you get a good scent trail. But they will eat the live baits best. But you have to have something when the live bait aren’t in your boat. I prefer shad when I can get it but sometimes you don’t have those in your boat. You sound like a catfish man. Great comments. Thanks for watching. Maybe we will see you out on the lake

At the Santee Campground tackle shop/convenience store, there's a picture of a catfish on the ground beside a VW Beetle that's almost as long as the car. There are also stories of divers working on the locks rhat came up and refused to go back down because they said there are catfish big enough to swallow them.

You really don't need to go through all that. Just drill the prop and 1 inch pvc cap. Bolt to 1 end of the stock prop, and you have a good splasher. Trust me. It works.
