Also, have you played FATE core? If so, any ideas on how to play FATE from a solo lens? The way you explain all these mechanics, with examples, is unrivaled. Love your style

I have not played FATE, but it looks like an interesting system to read about. I am adding it to my list of suggestions! It seems like a good system for solo RPGing because the character sheet looks simple. Usually, it's good to use a simpler RPG for solo play because you spend less time in the rulebooks, and more time on your story. Also, I think I can still give you some basic solo tips. If you choose to play with the adventure crafter, you could check out pages 6-7, and use the system as an "adventure seed", or "as needed". I find it's a good way to get a lot out of those rules without ending up spending too much time on planning the story. Now, when you get to the adventure itself, I think it's good to have something to answer yes or no questions. In the past I have covered: the "Loom of Fate" (p.7) from CRGE, the "Fate Chart" (p.20) from Mythic (2nd Ed), and the "Yes or No? Oracle" from Scarlet Heroes (p.115). There is also a pretty good free oracle that I have yet to cover called "'(Another) Yes/No Oracle" by Gustavo Coelho. This kind of tool is pretty much necessary to play solo rpgs because it adds an element of surprise! Turns out, it's unanticipated events which make a solo adventure feel engaging and challenging like a traditional TTRPG with a game master.

Thanks for the tips! I'm gonna put them to use. And looking forward to seeing your breakdown of FATE core. The official site has the core rulebook and other stuff, FREE :). So much supplemental material to expound upon the core rulebook, I wish they included it.

Thank you for this! I recently got into RPGs and found this supplement at after learning about Mythic. Had to read it a few times to get a decent grasp on it but this video cleared up so much! Since I am a complete newbie to RPGs, would you happen to have a discord or something to chat and get some coaching? Or is KZbin the best place to reach you? I think, like most people starting out, I consume so much info but starting actual play is sooooo daunting. Thanks again and look forward to connecting.

I'm glad you like my videos and got value out of this one! For the moment I do not have a discord community, but that is definitely something I will consider if/when this channel gets bigger. Feel free to ask any specific questions in the comments! Sometimes I will just answer people as a direct reply, but at other times people's questions become the basis for a video.

Would have been nice if you had rolled if Sariel got the right scroll (1d20; 1..12: Sariel has the scroll, 13..20: Dario has it). But it's of course not really important if she got the 200gp... Nice episode, thank you for not abandoning the series 🙂

Really cool how you explain the mechanics in the context of the story, so we can see how and when you apply the rules and interpret the results, while the story keeps going, even if a bit slower. (I like it so far!) One thing I don't like about Mythic is the chaos factor. It seems this mechanic is self-reinforcing and inevitably leads to a dead end: the higher the chaos factor, the less likely you get your expected result, which in turn increases the chaos factor, and so on. The same goes in the other direction, so you either end up in utter chaos or total boredom. At least that's what it looks to me. Of course there are sometimes possibilities to nudge the interpretation in one's favor, but this feels a bit like cheating.
@ValTheVideomancer
@ValTheVideomancer 16 күн бұрын
Thank you! And I agree that the chaos factor is a weak side of Mythic. I feel like it does not always fit with the mood I am going for in a given scene. What I usually do is to take a bit more control over the chaos factor than you are supposed to. I will still make it go up or down if I think the scene was especially chaotic or if I think it put order in things, but I will keep it as it is if I think it wasn't clearly one way or the other. I think it keeps chaos a bit more stable. Also, usually I will word things so the most dramatic or exciting thing will happen if I get a "yes", even if it's not always in my character's favor.

I play BX and I don't need a "Frey die" or traits to make each character unique. All of this is just gimmicky fluff that you can already do in Basic D&D. For example, in my current game I have a player using a Dragonborne character. He can tail swipe once per battle and do a breath attack once per day. A lot more thematic than "Frey dice". Save your money and use your imagination instead. You don't need Scarlet Heroes.

I'm not sure there is a "best" way. Progress tracker is an extremely general mechanic, so it can be used in many different ways. I don't know if it's possible to exhaust the possibilities. Consider two extremes: 1) inspired by Ironsworn: a journey requiring multiple segments of successful travel, pick the number of boxes on the tracker based on the length of the journey, and flashpoints could be opportunities where success means extra progress awarded (faster travel). 2) inspired by PUM (Plot Unfolding Machine): a progress tracker is used to identify the boundaries of the entire adventure (which might span several sessions), where flashpoints indicate major "plot twists".

@@ValTheVideomancer Something else I tend to have a problem with are threads, when are you supposed to interact with them and when aren't you? As I will be working towards resolving a thread when a random event will then interact with it. Am I only supposed to interact with threads when the random events tell me to, or can I interact with them as I please, given normally I expect players to always be trying to interact with "threads" so I find their presence as random events weird? Kind of like a gm trying to redirect the game in opposition to players interest?

How do I convert feats to Scarlet Heroes?
@ValTheVideomancer
@ValTheVideomancer 2 ай бұрын
To make things simpler I would convert them into traits as much as possible. You can also add them with minimal modifications (like spells), and follow the normal conditions for gaining them, but it would make your character more powerful so you would need to account for that when balancing fights.

Great explanation of Mythic GME 2E! Probably the best I've found on KZbin for now! However, I am not using it I prefer one or two pages oracles nowadays: One Page Mythic (removes chaos factor and puts meaning table and random focus into one table and is very elegant imho), OPSE (free, uses cards and dice which is pretty interesting and helpful even for hex and dungeon generation with its backside)... My favorite right now is the Dark Gods' Oracle at p98 Black Sword Hack which to put it simply is the One Page Mythic but with d6s (high is yes and low is no, with varying intensity) and d66 tables for meanings
