Good morning Vicky - I have just found your channel and am looking forward to seeing your packing light videos. While I enjoy some other you tubers’ packing videos they usually don’t conform to our carry on weight restrictions. 🤷‍♀️. Thanks for your fun and informative video! 😊

I have a jacket and a vest that has multiple, very useful pockets. Scott-E Vest has men's and women's jackets and vests with pockets big enough for a laptop, tablet, RFID passport pockets etc. They are not cheap but can significantly reduce weight going in a personal item

Am never checking in again cost me 2 weeks of time and money my bag was lost 4 times last travel.. will have to just take minimum as cant carry much as asthmatic. Ridiculous that each budget airline has different bag size free item! Where I sit so will my bag whether flight train or bus. If all about safety then why do they let bus 1st class bring such huge weight bags!!
@NonStopTravelVV

I’m a Melbourne boy who had my first coffee on tour in Vienna, with all the cream and stuff on the top. Later I learned about good espresso in Italy, and it was only after that that coffee in Melbourne became consistently good like it is now. Fun fact linking trams and music. The Sydney Opera House was built on the location of the old Fort Macquarie Tram Depot - built in 1902 and demolished in 1958. Sydney used to have a bigger tram network than Melbourne but it was closed down and ripped up in 1961. I'm not fully sure why, but I think there were political ideas and usage trends (that may well have been relatively short term if the trams were kept) suggesting cars and buses were the way of the future.

The architecture topic is an interesting one that I haven't given much thought until now. Melbourne's economy was very strong throughout most of the latter half of the 19th Century when architecture was quite nice to look at even if it wasn't all that practical. It's population growth, and hence its high rise boom, was slower than Sydney's for the majority of the 20th Century. And in particular, the latter half of it, for which architecture of that particular period is now looked back on not too fondly. Melbourne then took off again at the start of this Century when architecture had already started to aesthetically improve. And the skyline kind of reflects that. Whereas Sydney's growth over the decades has been a little more consistent over the same timeline. The differences are subtle but Melbourne kind of looks both older and newer at the same time.
@NonStopTravelVV
@NonStopTravelVV Ай бұрын
Oh that’s the perfect explanation! It makes a lot of sense now. Yes Sydney must have had a big boom in the 60s and 70s, especially in the eastern suburbs. And during that time buildings weren’t very pretty and they ate a bit of an eye sore now. Melbourne is definitely prettier when it comes to architecture. Thank you for your comment ☺️

This should be a 3 hour trip : The fundamental problem with HSR is that the rail gauge of 1435 mm is far too narrow (as the rail cars a 3040 mm in width) - so the trains have to follow a (very expensive) virtual straight line - or tip over! This is a classic “5 Monkey Experiment” scenario - “we have always done it (incorrectly) that way”!! The so-called “Standard” rail gauge is only 1435 mm (which was actually engineered for 5’ width (mining) rail cars - and not for 8’ 0” rail cars! Brunel (in the CE 1830 - 40s) came up with a 7’ 0” rail “Broad” gauge that was perfect for 8’ 0” width rail cars - as this was far more stable and far larger load capacity (and lower maintenance) than the narrower gauges! All hell broke loose and Stephenson eventually pressed the UK Parliament for the “UK Standard Rail Gauge Act” CE 1846 to deliberately / deceptively eliminate Brunel’s excellent “Broad” gauge competing with his then commonly used “standard” gauge. In the CE 1920-30s Train cars became even wider to 10’ 0” (3040 mm) - and far more unstable as they were still using “Standard” gauge (1435 mm) that was less than half the width (3040 mm) of the cars. Would you drive road car with an 1800 mm width that has barely an 850 mm wheel gauge? No! Well only in a straight line!! The correct rail gauge for 3040 (10’ 0”) rail cars is 2540 mm (8’ 4”) “Wide” gauge rail! With this “Wide” gauge, these rail cars will be very stable and the HSR “Wide” rail lines do not have to be dead straight (as per HSR using the incorrect “Standard” Gauge rails)! This correctly engineered “Wide Gauge” rail line in Australia can then be applied for about 90% of the way using the pre-existing rail easements at a small fraction of the cost of making completely new rail easements and tracks. WDYT ?! 😊
