Thank you Eric. Your solution worked the first time. Now that I’m using the Ars Imago Lab Box to develop my B&W film, I need the leader out. I had several rolls where the leader was rolled inside and I tried using the Haiser tool without success. You rock. I’m a subscriber now

Thanks for a very thorough, fluid and interesting presentation. I have a couple of Canonet GIII and agree that it has an amazing set of features, including fully manual settings and quick loading. And the lens is great. You probably know this, but the Yashica Electro 35 GX, with a Yashinon DX 40mm f1.7 lens, is a much better comparison. The GX is as compact as the others, and has the advantage of a much faster silicon cell meter, with the sensor on the lens. In my opinion, the Yashinon DX 45mm f1.7 is definitely the best-performing lens of all you reviewed, including the Zeiss (except for the T* coatings, unless you're looking for flare). The DX 40mm f1.7 performs at least as well. You probably know that the Contax Zeiss and the Yashinon lenses were all made by Tomioka, so no wonder they excel. I have tested the DX 40mm f1.7 against a Leitz Wetzlar Summicron-C 40mm f2, on a Leica CL, and found that the DX performs at least as wellf (I prefer the DX rendering), and has better ergonomics. In fact, the DX 40mm f1.7 is my favorite standard walk-around lens (ideal focal length), and I have extracted three and converted them to Sony E-mount. You showed some impressive photos. However, I'm pretty sure any photo taken with any Yashica Yashinon DX lens, would be the winner, and maybe beat the Leica-Biogon combo. I've worked out a system for compensating exposure via the ISO settings, which is a hassle compared to the GIII, but works: I flip over a hot-shoe cover that is painted red on the other side. Otherwise, I'll forget to reset. The Yashica Electro 35 GX has a better viewfinder than the GSN, but nothing compares to the M-series Leica.

I just reunited with my OM2N MD with Zuiko 50mm f1.8 lens. Found one in almost Mint condition on eBay. Like my original the film-winder cap is missing but I think I saw some replacements on ebay. What a beautiful camera, beats my Nikon FE2 !

Hi Eric, It is a pity that Olympus did not use the same MLU method with the timer on the OM-2n as they did on the OM-10, OM-20 etc. which are amateur cameras. The OTF method was licensed by Olympus from Minolta who patented the system. Olympus developed the mask behind the mirror to transform light output into exposure. Minolta considered this system more appropriate for flash metering (TTL flash) but later used the method not only for TTL flash (X-700) but also for "final shot metering" on the XD-(7-11-S) and the X series. Other brands that used OTF were Miranda (sensorex EE) and Pentax (Pentax LX).

Last month I purchased 3 Olympus OM-2n cameras for $100. I brought them home and added the batteries to each camera. Two of the three were working. The third one will only be released in "B" mode. I went ahead and purchased about the same amount in lenses. I must say that I am impressed. It is a lot easier to use than a Nikon F2 or Leicaflex camera and has a solid body and feel to it. I took a couple of rolls of black and white photos that came out great.

I really love the Silverfast. It took me awhile to figure out a lot of the settings, but now I like it. I use the Plustek scanner and like it. I like to scan one frame at a time. I've had labs scan my stuff and I feel like I do a better job. I spend a lot of time at it though.

I've had the SRT 101 for years now. Love it. It needs a CLA badly. Love the lenses for it. They're starting to fog in the last year, but they're still super sharp if you close the aperture 2-3 stops from wide open. EDIT as I continue to watch: I never really thought about it until you said it. These lenses are super smooth as you focus them. I have some DSLR and Mirrorless lenses that cost a lot that have easy and tougher spots. As the lense size retracts, it gets easier and then when the lense overall length begins to extend again, the focus ring gains more resistance. I really like these older lenses for these cameras and that is what draws me to the Minolta SRT cameras. I'm leaving the country for 13 months in January, but when I get back, I'm finding a camera guy to CLA my Minolta. It deserves it.

Thank you for that! I have an Epson 3200 Photo with different film format trays. Well, I'm just going to try that. I was a super lover of Provia slide. I still have one Provia 400 to develop and one in the chamber in my Nikon F90. I heard discussion by word of mouth only, about wet flat bed scanning. That sounds expensive with a steep learning curve. Great channel.....

Nice channel. I picked up an Olympus 35 EC (super cute) with a guide # ring. Not sure how that works with my SunPak PZ42X, which is fully TTL. I got some nice 400TX test negatives shooting with it at different ev/stop/powers though around my spider plants.

Hi, I have watched your videos off and on, and your knowledge is excellent on cameras! Your explanations of camera gear is very sober and clear. I want to add a little tidbit on the video of Leica m3. Not knowing if true or not, I heard that when the camera was designed for the rewind know, it was made purposely to be rewound in a slow manner! The reason was if rewound to fast streaks of static electricity could appear on the film according to the environment you were in photographing! I just acquired one, and had an m3 many years ago and always regreted selling it. Now I have another, and this one stays with me!! Thanks take care. Paul Conway

The Leica M3 is a great companion! I haven’t heard about electrostatic charges affecting the film on a manually rewound camera but I have read that in the owners manual of my Nikon F3 as it pertains to auto rewind using the motor drive. I mention it in my video review of the F3. I guess it’s possible but hard to imagine that manually rewinding the camera would cause that to happen.

The F6 isn't that reliable because it has a lot of electronics that could fail. When changing batteries data, clock, date, hour are run by an internal rechargable buffer battery that died after near 20 year of use on my F6. Nikon repaired it recently but the bill was huge. My FM3A that is also a 21st century film Nikon camera and never failed.

Hello Eric! I have two Canon A1s, but since I started using manual mode more I prefer other cameras of the time like the Minolta XD-7 that allows you to see in the viewfinder at all times the exposure chosen and the one recommended by the camera. In any case the A-1 is an excellent camera. Another highly recommended camera is the Konica autoreflex T3. Now a small con of the futuristic A-1, the battery door is very fragile and uncomfortable to open without fear of breaking (as you showed us)it. The program mode does not have program shift something that the XD-7 does have despite not being called program in shutter speed priority mode one can choose the minimum shutter speed in which the camera will try to find the necessary aperture to obtain a good exposure and if the largest aperture is not enough to obtain a correct exposure then the camera at the time of taking the photo corrects the shutter speed necessary to compensate effectively acting as a program mode allowing the user to choose a starting shutter speed.
