Contacted Vermont Camera works today. They aren’t taking in any more work until possibly November if even then. Huge backlog, parts problems etc. I had a bunch of old Voigtlander’s ready to ship off needing little tweaks. Oh well patience is a virtue or something. And that DC camera shop, while doing great work and with great people working there, is still painful on the pocket😂
@FilmPhotographyChannel2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. The DC shop is way expensive. Try certo6.com. I sent my Voigtlander Bessa II to them to be fixed after a really nasty drop on the concrete (I cringe just thinking about it). They refurbish and repair mostly folding cameras and I’ve had good results with them.

@@FilmPhotographyChannel will check out the recommendation. I’m having my Hasselblad lenses CLA’d at PP in DC simply because I don’t want to risk mailing/shipping them these days. Could get them done cheaper elsewhere but would rather pay more for the peace of mind.

Wanted to let you know i appreciate this video so much. I'm sending my Rollei 35 to Vermont Camera Works for a CLA and overall repair anything that's not functioning. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!

You’re very welcome! I’m glad you found my video useful. I’m very happy with the work from Vermont Camera Works. They were awesome and I’ve been taking my Rollei 35S everywhere with me since it was CLA’d.

I took all my little Rolleis for a CLA on 04/10/2022 - 2 35S and a 35. Gonna pick them Friday 17/02/2023. Everytime I take a camera to these guys I tell them "no need to rush, I prefer them to be perfect. Take your time, do on the needed pace". My Two Rolleiflexes are in very good shape, now was the time for their ;itt;e sisters :) I simply LOVE these cameras! I live in São Paulo, Brazil, otherwise I'd recommend you these guys. My best!

I’ve had one of these for a few months but the few times I’ve taken it out shooting, I’ve quickly fallen for how simple and fun it is to shoot with. Thanks for the tip on slow shutter, well worth having the CLA done by Vermont Camera Works.

I bought a Hasselblad 500C as a backup to my 500C that needed three minor repairs that cost me what I paid for the camera. The camera looks new, not a scratch on it and works perfectly. Quality repairs are expensive, but the only option to getting a old film camera working again.
@FilmPhotographyChannel3 жыл бұрын
I partially agree with your point. When it comes to this little camera I think the person that quoted me $330 was flat out trying to rip me off. I could tell by his demeanor. I’ve had four Leica‘s CLA’d as well as a couple of Leica lenses and never paid anywhere near that much. the repairs were done several years ago and the cameras are still working perfectly. I do acknowledge that expensive and rare cameras like a vintage Hasselblad should only be taken to the best and most reputable repair facility.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I love the Rollei 35, mine is the older one made when they switched to manufacturing in Singapore. These cameras produce razor sharp images, and are perfect for street photography.

I agree 100%. I’m kind of fascinated with how much I’ve grown to like this camera. I really enjoy using it. I just bought the Rollei E15B flash for it.
Great to see you again, hope you make more videos soon. Take Care

My viewfinder is broken and was wondering if you can replace it or that something they wouldn’t be able to fix
@FilmPhotographyChannel2 жыл бұрын
Before buying my 35S, I actually looked at one with a cracked viewfinder and decided against buying. You should talk to a technician (which I am not) but the tech guy I spoke with said he couldn’t fix it. He probably didn’t want to be bothered and just wanted to sell what he had on hand as-is. It may require that you have a spare body so you can swap out the viewfinder but I don’t know for sure.

Inherited a 35s over the spring. Highly recommend Lens Medic YYC, repair took a couple days and had the camera back in a week (sent it across Canada). Service was 145$ CDN and working flawlessly.

Oh hey, I am literally just back from town after having dropped off my Rollei 35SE at the camera store to get repaired....had I seen this before I might have used the folk you used (though as a Canadian shipping to the US is a pain). Mine had issues with the slowest shutter speeds turning into bulb mode (e.g. I couldn't use 1/4s and it turned into Bulb instead). It wasn't the biggest problem and I was hesitant to get it repaired....but these cameras are pretty popular and beloved these days so I bit the bullet for now (still waiting for a quote). Anxiously looking forward to shooting more with it because while it is a weird camera to use (I had to rely on an external rangefinder and guestimated the exposures since I couldn't get batteries for the meter), I really had fun shooting it. Wonderfully designed as you said (tbh your previous video was a bit part of why I even bought one lol).
@FilmPhotographyChannel3 жыл бұрын
I decided to get it fixed because of the wonderful lens, the fact I enjoy using it and since I see the prices going up on eBay I probably won’t lose anything if I sell it in the future. It’s a keeper though.

Oh, another Canadian subscriber sent his to Lens Medic YYC to get his shutter fixed for a similar price to my camera repair.

The Rollie 35 will work and be repairable as long as 35mm film is being manufactured. While all the yashica t4s, contax t2/3, Olympus stylus epics, etc’s electronic motors all die and parts are sparse/not existent.

Anyone purchasing one of these should check the slow shutter speeds before. I had this problem, my repair guy said it is a very common fault with the slow speed governor and he replaced mine. The spares are running out though.
@FilmPhotographyChannel Жыл бұрын
That’s a great point. I consider myself lucky to have found a repair place that fixed it for relatively cheap.

I have two 35T’s, my favorite back up camera when traveling and paired with a Nikon FM2/3 or a Leica film camera. One of them also has the same issue where the slow shutter speeds sound the same. But they are the camera I take out when at the beach or in crappy weather. I also have the compact flash which is great when shooting in low light or daylight fill with the 1/500 shutter sync. I got the Rollei to replace an Olympus XA2 that has a shutter released that’s unreliable.
@FilmPhotographyChannel3 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue with my Olympus XA. The lens on the Rollei is better than the Oly anyway.

It concerns me that some major camera manufacturers don’t support their products at their service centers. Nikon wouldn’t do a clean, lube and adjust on my F3. Throw away culture sucks.
